Conquistadores for Christmas!

Conquistadores for Christmas!

Earlier this year we did a poll for the best matched pair set of plastics and the winner was Conquistadores vs. Aztecs. We're very happy to show off the work that has gone into the Conquistador designs. Our goal is to make a set that works for the Conquest of Mexico as well as filling in your European armies of the early 16th century (or fantasy ones for that matter!)

Let us know what you think of these in the comments below!

These wonderful sculpts are by the very talented Rob Macfarlane.

Note and Update: you can open the above pic in a new window for a closer view to see all the crossbows. Rob is hard at work adding pike and Montante, some additional shields (not those are only unique parts above - not what is on the final sprue) and here are some more heads that have been added in the meantime:

maybe split it up into two kits? like a Melee focused kit and a Ranged focused kit? Like, if I were to use these for a wargame like Age of Sigmar, I’m more likely to assemble blocks of melee soldiers than cross-bowmen.

Also… no crossbows!?

The morion was a mid-late 16th century helmet design. The less flamboyant late medieval cabasset would be more accurate for the early 16th century.

>More variety on the buckler / shields
While Conquistadores were made up largely of Rodeleros (some 70% of Cortez men), on European battlefields of the time the Shield had become largely obsolete.

The question is not what we want but what fits on the sprue – unless AW will make a larger or two sprues. I can live without a shield (or even a drum) if that means more heads, equipment or hands, but one is fine. If something needs to be dumped for it I would not welcome a second shield.

More variety on the buckler / shields, including adarga shields please

Like many I would like to see more pikes, but I understand you go for versatility, and exchanging this plastic halberds for wire pikes takes 1 minute :).For sure I am gonna buy a few of your boxes. Hurry up! :)

I’ll take 5

Very nice sculpts. I believe it has already been said in earlier comments, but the easy ability to make Spanish pike blocks would be fantastic (open hands, arm positions, etc). This added ability would increase overall box sells dramatically in my opinion.

Very nice indeed!!! Yes, a few more pike options would be nice, but I guess they are Conquistadores and not Spanish Tercio troops… Maybe kit bash these with Warlord Games Landsknechts and Perry’s Mercenaries… Also Perry’s late 1500’s light and heavy cavalry, to make Spanish Cabalo with lance and lighter Jinets… Ok cannot wait…👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🐿
