Preview: Napoleonic Prussian Reserve Army Builder Set

We teased a secret Napoleonic set along with a new kind of box - Army Builder. Now we can reveal it:

This will be our third Napoleonic set (although the second released as the Spanish needed a bit more work) and the first of the Army Builder sets. What is an Army Builder set you ask? Well, we are happy to explain!

An Army Builder is a new type of plastic set we are experimenting with. It's designed to let you build the bulk of your forces with a minimal amount of assembly and for a great value. Instead of 30-40 models in the box, you get a whopping 60 for the same price ($34.95 / £25) but with less parts to stick together. In this case, there is also no command included and you will have to source command from another manufacturer in either metal or plastic. This gives you the flexibility to set the ratio of command to troops in your unit depending on which set of rules you play. If you want 12-man, 24-man, 36-man, or 124-man units have at it!

As you can see above the tooling is finished and these are preparing to ship out for a probable March release alongside the Lizardmen (two sets that are definitely meant to go together!?!?!)

We are excited to see what you think of this Army Builder idea and how we can use it for other subjects both for Napoleonics and other historical periods and perhaps even fantasy. Feel free to tell us your ideas and thoughts below.

We will have more to show on these along with size comparison photos as we get closer to release.

Hi Like these a lot and a great idea that some soft plastic manufacturers like Hat and Stelets are now doing to some degree.

A few observations:-

1. the figures seem to be armed with a Brown Bess musket without slings. Although Britain did indeed supply over 15,000 of these to Prussia is was a fraction of the Prussian, Russian and Swedish muskets that Prussian infantry carried. So it would have been better to arm them with a Prussian style musket with the 2 metal fastening bands holding the barrel to the wood.

2. Also musket slings would finish off the figures even if every man didn’t have one, mist would.

3. The heads don’t seem to have pegs on them to fit into holes on the necks of the figures. Won’t this make the headsmote prone to coming off if knocked!

4. More head variants would be good perhaps a couple of bareheads and bandaged heads.

5. Perhaps another command set to compliment this would be a great idea comprising mounted and foot officers, standard bearers, drummers, fifers, sergeants and sappers.

Just some suggestions.

They look really good . Great idea to allow wargamers to pump out Regiments and Brigades really quickly . Possibly throw some flag sheets in to trap even more buyers . Especially the newbies . Can you explore the idea of knocking out any of Confederation of the Rhine Countries ? The Saxons , Westphalians , Bavarians , Wurttemberg ? Every other major country has already been done in a box . Any 2 of those per box possibly . But can you also consider Artillery for Prussian , Russian and Austrian too

Well done – great idea! French and Russians next?

This is an incredible idea. I would buy these kinds of packs for medieval, sci-fi, ww2, modern, you name it!

I have to say im very excited about the whole concept. Your expanding range never fails to amaze me.

A great set that I could really use. I can’t wait to get some.
Maybe doing Landwehr cavalry next?

A great set. This fills a real need. I really want to get a hold of a few boxes. Well done.

Lovely looking figures and at a great price.

Others sets that could work in this format are Russian Napoleonics in greatcoats with covered shakos and caps. The caps could make them useable as musket armed Russian Opelchenie. This format would also work for American War of Independence Hessians or French, that could double up for Seven Years War Prussians and other German states. The French could also work for French and Indian Wars, as well as Seven Years War. Perry miniatures make command for all the above.

You could also look at English Civil War or Thirty Years War, with 4 musketeers and two open handed pikemen per sprue to add your own pike from metal or a plastic broom bristle.

This is exactly what I suggested in my “any suggestions” comment to your survey. What a great choice. Well done Wargames Atlantic.
