Been playing around with different ways of assembling and expanding my Orc Horde.
I had initially purchased these to use as Mordor Orcs for GW's defunct Battle of the 5 Armies game, but after having the sprues in hand I immediately began to consider other options. With what I've built I'll be able tonuse it all for BotFA, Warmaster and Wargames Atlantics upcoming Fantasy rules.
By skimping on the number of Orcs per base (I went with 8) and a simple bit of scratchbuilding from easily available and cheap bits I was able to squeeze the following out of one box.
4 x Heroes bases
2 x Shamen bases
24 x Mixed Weapon Orc bases
6 x Wolf Rider Bases
6 x Spider Chariot Bases
12 x Giant Spider Bases
4 x Bolt Throwers w Crew
2 x Stone Throwers w Crew
1 x Giant
The Stone Throwers and Bolt Throwers were the first things I added, these are simple scratchbuilds using sprue, coffee stirrers and other gubbins.
I grabbed a cheap bag of Halloween decorations Spiders 🕷 cheap off my mate Jeff to make a few Bases of Giant Spiders to serve alongside my Orcs.
While building these I began to look at the leftover small Bases that came with the Orcs, something about the shapes made me think Chariot! Never one to pass up an opportunity to cheaply add extra units to an army I immediately set about making some Spider Chariots out of them!
Hopefully Wargames Atlantic can let us know how other troop types will be based up for the upcoming Classic Fantasy Battles rules, I'd really like these all to be usable for it
