A New Set to Kick off A New Range!

A New Set to Kick off A New Range!

Today we kick off a major new range: Decline and Fall with the first set for the range WAALR001 Late Roman Legionaries (1): Lorica Hamata

This range will roughly cover the period from the crisis of the 3rd century through to the fall of the Western Empire and beyond. Some sets from our Blood Oaths range may be useful here as well. We will start with Romans in lorica hamata (mail) and will soon add Goths, Franks, and Army Builder sets for both the Romans and the Goths.

The Army Builder sets will have 60 figures each at the same price as our other sets ($34.95/£25) and are designed to be used in combination with the main Roman and Goth boxes to provide all the command you need to build many full units using a combination of the boxes.

This first box will let you build later Roman legionaries with command and lots of head and weapon options to cover a wide swath of history. These also make excellent superior warriors for your Goth, Hun, and other Germanic tribes.

Take a closer look here and get yours now!

This is the first of at least five new sets coming out this year for this range.

Hello Y.Whateley,

You might "not remember’, I do. It was on Facebook.

I asked WA (jokingly) if they would be out for the end of June in time for my birthday. They replied in the affirmative. No “hope” or “intent” to it.

I am fully aware that downtime can be extended and delays often occur that is why I was surprised that my light hearted request was answered with an assurance.

Keep up the good work WA just don’t make statements that cannot be honoured. That’s the job of politicians.

Really looking forward to the Huns (although I may want them for Renaissance/Colonial settings rather than as actual Huns)

Huns! Foes or friends? Depends on who made the payment this year. Huns, where are you?

Cail – July 16, 2021 “Wait ‘designed to be used in combination with the main Roman and Goth boxes’ there will be ‘main Roman box’? Oh hell yea, I’m in!”

I think this IS the main Roman box, with the parts to make these command units. What was designed to be combined with this box and a Goth box is, if I’m reading right, an as yet unpreviewed 60-figure Army Builder kit of rank-and-file soldiers that will presumably have the parts to build either 60 Roman or 60 Goth grunt soldiers. (Based on what we’ve been shown from other WA Army Builder kits, you can expect this Army Builder set to be probably be 60 figures in more static poses – e.g. marching – with fewer parts and options needed for assembly: not heavily customizable in terms of poses and options, but a great, economical way to put a lot of good-quality figures on the table quickly!)

In any event, looks to me like this is the main Roman set, opposed by the corresponding Goth set (which I believe has been previewed), with both of those sets planned to be supported by an Army Builder set with parts for both armies, which hasn’t been previewed yet.

All three seem like they’ll be great for historical gamers in a range of Dark Ages and neighboring settings, as well as being suitable for fantasy gamers. I really appreciate the genre/setting flexibility of WA’s kits – great stuff! :)

Matthias Kellermann – July 16, 2021 “I was looking forward to these as the start of a new project. WA said that it would be out by the end of June – disappointing. I have moved on to a different era instead. Don’t make impossible to fulfil promises WA. It leads to annoyance.”

I don’t remember that statement, but I’m not sure WA were promising anything – rather, with a vague timeline like “end of June”, it sounds more like an early estimate that ran into a snag of some sort, such as something being retooled before release, or whatever.

Whatever the case, Wargames Atlantic’s new Release Schedule looks like it addresses your complaint: the schedule looks more like an official statement of when to expect upcoming releases. Notably, the schedule only lists a couple sets, even thought WA newsletters clearly indicate there are a lot of new sets in the works – in other words, WA is only adding sets to the schedule when WA is feeling confident that the release is ready. That schedule would be where we can expect to find a reliable timeline for release, it seems: if it’s not on the schedule yet, then any estimate for release can be regarded as unreliable.

I doubt it’s any consolation, but I’m also waiting for some product releases that I was hoping to see sooner: the Cannon Fodder and Boxer Rebellion Chinese (who seemed to be just about ready for release months ago, but presumably met some sort of unexpected hold-up, and went back to the drawing board….) No annoyance, I don’t feel like WA promised me anything, but I would certainly have been glad to see both sets a little sooner :)

I think these will work out great with Gripping Beast and Footsore Late Romans, based upon the size/proportions of other sets.

It’s pretty rough I know but it’s my first review video lol. I will do a better in-depth review when they arrive and compare them with other Wargames Atlantic kits
