New Set Announcement: Bavarians!

New Set Announcement: Bavarians!

The Bavarians under their "Mad King" Ludwig II fought both with and against the Prussians in the wars of 1866 and 1870. We've designed this set to include headgear for both conflicts along with command. The set will feature 30 figures and be available a little later this year.

Here are some painted versions by Jason Frowde. We'll have the full sprue and the box illustration soon.

Together with the Perry Prussian & French plastic set this could really bring me into another 28mm war. I desperately tried and managed to stay out of Napoleonics and ACW, but this is tempting…

Looks like a great set and will fill a niche in FPW plastics. That said there are one or two issues with the figures as shown. The trumpeter should have a slung rifle rather than a sword in the other hand. Only officers and senior NCOs carried swords. Bavarians in this period mostly used drummers, similar to most other Prussian/German infantry. The light infantry (particularly jaeger and schuetzen) swapped the traditional horn for the more manageable trumpet for the Franco-Prussian War.

Great choice of dual purpose figure…the soft caps don’t look quite right though. They seem to have a floppy appearance than you have depicted them. Otherwise all good.

Yes! Yes! All very good and Germanically efficient! Vorsprung durch Fritzy!

But the pressing question….

How are those Crimean War British Grenadier Guards coming along???

If we can have Franco Prussian War! Surely we can give some love to the Crimean War!

It contains Frenchmen and Russians Sardinians and Turks, not to mention the Scots, besides us English.

The most pointless war in history. Perhaps!

But it needs love and representation all the same!

Keep up the great work guys!

Hurrah! Looks jolly good! I think an excellent opponent box would be a Garde Mobile/Garde Nationale box. That would be cracking! A perfect pairing and no duplication of other companies. As well as covering the second half of the FPW.

These look interesting and lots of scope for conversion opportunities. Cannot see the details of the gaiters , these look more like soft boots and it might just be the photos but the sword guard looks huge. This minor gripes aside this is a welcome addition to the period, I particularly like the spare rifle as this creates lots of opportunities to create a variety of poses.

Oh no… no more boxes to buy…
… that would be a very expensive year for me…

A great new release! With so many wargame enthusiasts involved in the American Civil War, it’s always surprised me that the European wars fought during this same time frame (1859, 1864, 1866, 1870-71) do not receive an equal level of interest. Added to that are many colorfully uniformed units that are reminiscent of the Napoleonic era (hussars, grenadiers, lancers, etc.). I already wargame these wars in 15mm, but have always wanted to do 28mm skirmish gaming. This will be a great way to get started. I am hoping you will branch into some light infantry (jaegers) from French, Prussian, Danish and Austrian armies. Another possibility is to do the Mexican Wars of the 1860s.

Excellent idea and very useful poses for the period! I will definitely do the three box deal for this one. Thank you for entering ranges that are not so known as others have done it will be well supported I think.

The set looks fantastic as always, and sounds like a subject that doesn’t get much attention from other manufacturers. I appreciate the support for alt-history and Victorian sci-fi, too :)
