New Set Announcement: British Infantry (1916-1918)

We can present the first batch of sculpts for the next set in our Great War range: British Infantry (1916-1918)!

(open image in a new tab for a close up)

This is where we are in the sculpting process. We have some more arms and another body pose to do.

These could also be useful for the pre-war period, the interwar period (VBCW anyone?), and with a bit of squinting even into WW2! (Although probably better left to our World Ablaze range!)

Let us know what you think of them below and we will continue to move them along! Which WW1 set should we tackle next? Post your thoughts and maybe we can have a poll on it.

Small niggles, but pertinent – the Holster is the wrong type, since it appears to be for the M1911. Too many Lewis Guns for a typical Platoon. Some Helmets covered in Hessian/Burlap would cover later war.

Well the next should be austrohungarian or russian, while i love austrohungarian i think that they want to have more than one war to make the posible sells bigger so i think that the russians are a better option

Loving the look of these, they would do great for Home Guard units in Bolt Action. Actually, any chance of including a couple of BREN guns on the sprue ( even at the cost of a couple of the lewis guns ) and they would fit right into early WW2 BEF in France.

Looking again at thr image, I can’t get over the feeling that those attatched bayonets look awfully fragile. Though I guess they are easy enough to remove with a knife.

Bare heads , some with gas masks would be good , also perhaps , some helmets on their own …

The Indian infantry option is a v nice idea but the Indian Corps were withdrawn from the Western Front by 1916 so the turbaned heads are not strictly right. Also, in Egypt and Mesopotamia they’d have worn shorts and shirts. Maybe the sets trying to do too much?

I am loving all the options. I don’t have a need for these guys but I just want them because they are so freaking cool! :-)

Love the sculpts and the wide variety of head options!

Are the heads directly above the bodies supposed to represent Royal Naval Division?
Yes to slouch hats and also how about slouch hats with ostrich feathers for the Light Horse? Actually, sprue sets with nothing but head options sounds awesome.
How about guys in shorts for the more tropical environments?
Also really want to see US WW1 infantry soon.

Justin Lakin – August 17, 2021: “To those complaining about webbing and jacket cut for Sikhs, Commonwealth troops on the Western Front were generally issued British uniforms as it was easier to access the already available British stores rather than trying to ship new equipment from overseas. ANZAC troops in the West after 1916 also regularly used British equipment, including British caps such as the trench cap or general service.”

That sounds like a good case to me for keeping the Sikh heads (which, by the way, are great!) I also just remembered that the upcoming “Space British” set includes pith helmet, and I see no reason not to source those for quick-and-easy kitbashing, for those who want it – come to think of it, the Space British set already looked like it was aimed toward VSF, anyway, for those wanting pith helmets for VSF purposes (and this set seems like it would kitbash nicely with the Space British!) So, I’ve rather changed my mind about swapping the Sikhs for pith helmets – I think the Sikh turbans are fine as-is, now that I’ve slept on it!

I don’t mind all the Lewis guns, for some reason – maybe “too many”, but they’re cool. I kinda like the idea of the Broderick caps too, even if they aren’t strictly historically accurate, though the ones in the sample image seem to me to be missing something, including the badge(?) on the front… maybe that’s a work-in-progress thing?

I do like the idea of slouch hats and tamoshanters, both seem like they’d be very useful for covering a lot of ground for those who are requesting Scots and ANZACs.

Anyway, looks like it’s going to be a great set to me!
