Country

It seems the Quar have always been at war. When the first wandering clans of insect gatherers built their low, mud-walled buildings, it was as much to keep out other Quar as the wild animals. As they first learned to make tools to get food, they quickly learned to make tools to defend themselves. The mud walls quickly became fortified citadels, and then city-states. In five thousand years of civilization, the only constants of their culture have been the changing of the seasons and the threat of war.

Quar are just like you and me - perfectly normal creatures, bereft of magic or supernatural powers or other-worldly technologies. They do eat bugs, though, and lots of them. Most quar, when they’re not fighting each other over slights real or imagined, are farmers, or traders, or merchants. Mostly they live simple, happy lives full of hard work, ale and the occasional overeating of mothcakes.

But there are other quar - ambitious, striving quar - for which a mere warm bed and full belly are not enough. These are the ones that scheme, that connive, and their machinations bring whole nations and kingdoms into conflict. Constant conflict, brutal conflict, for the history of Alwyd is written in blood.

The Long War is entering a new phase. Gather your weapons, choose your side, and prepare to begin your chapter in the history of this grand conflict.

This is a two-player game that features 24 hard plastic Quar (12 Crusaders and 12 Coftyrans), 24 hard plastic dual-use bases, 10 activation cards, 6 D6 dice, and a 48 page rulebook. There is also a selection of cut-out terrain on the box sides to help bring your battlefield to life!

Models require assembly and painting. Product contents may vary from photos.

Let the Quar Battle Begin!

First gaming in years and went with Quar Clash of Rhyfles, and I could not be more pleased with the choice. The miniatures are imaginative and the gameplay well thought through. Strategy while very important is tempered with the chance from dice and “number of play” cards instilled into the gaming to replicate troop performance variables. Gaming is very lively while affording a tremendous amount of humorous interactions (loved the “gobsmacked “ status)!

I highly recommend the game for a realistic encounter with your friends Quar troops that is infused with more fun than I thought possible.

There's greatness in these bones.

The Quar are charming little chaps, aren't they? They're cute, little pudgy anthropoidal snout-people, like The Clangers, or Moomintroll, they like hats, and marmalade, and moth cakes, and trench warfare.
Well, they don't so much like that last one, but it seems they've become quite practiced in it.

The design of these Quar seems at once familiar like a beloved child's toy, yet novel; I am quite taken with them, especially the handbook illustrations which are soft and round, and the recent plump bodied plastic sets are far cuter than the earlier more slender models, and Qualtieri has showed restraint in not over-designing the wee chaps, making them a pleasure to paint casually.

I suggest potential 2.0 sprue could swap the grenade-holding right arms for something that doesn't preclude applying any of the rifles from the kit without modification, as they are all right-handed, and there are already loose grenades and open hands on sprue; either/or a left hand holding a grenade, or shouldered rifle would seem intuitive.
The cardboard terrain printed on the box is an absolute classic addition, however, I feel like they would be easier to remove for cack-handed yokels like me if the box had a touch less glue in the folds.

The starter set contains enough Quar for two opposing squads, plus spares, and the cards and rulebook are nicely rendered on good paper and stock.

For pure weight in plastic I'd say the infantry boxes beat this one out; the rules are available online free, errata also from this very site even, though having a hard copy is just nice, the cards could be substituted, in theory, but are pretty and flavorful.
The dice are green, which is nice, but I have many dice; this set certainly contains almost everything you'd need short of glue, clipper, paints, and maybe basing material and a battle mat; a 2x2 battle mat would indeed, be a great addition for future versions, double sided would be even better.
The rules in the box are somewhat updated/superceded by the aforementioned errata; not a huge deal, and actually a good thing that signals ongoing product development, but a potential revised version of box should include these errata.

The blind activation mechanic is innovative (I have at least, never seen it before) and adds an extra level of risk assessment to a round, the game is designed to be playable in a fairly compact space, and the rules are easy enough for me to intuit that I would say this is appropriate for beginners, but not lacking depth.

Proper solid product, competes with the big leagues, but I'm gonna make you earn that last star, because I think you can do even better.
Those punks down at GW have been stepping up their intro box game of late, and as much as I'm loath to compare this to a loss-leader product from an industry titan, but that's the competition on the field.

Fingers crossed for full sized tractor boxes this year, as it stands I fully intend to buy more Quar.

Very nice.

Got them within a few weeks and I am very happy with them. The quality was very nice, the plastic models were nicely detailed and the sprues had extra parts for customization. Also the rule book and cards were high quality, despite the rules being free online it was still nice to have the physical thing. I already painted the Crymuster rhyflers and the whole prosses was enjoyable.

For those who are new to Quar and want to collect or have the money to you should get this as the physical rules, cards and other parts are nice to have. However for those who don't want the extra stuff and just want the models then just get the infantry Crusader and infantry Coftyr boxes as they are similar in price.

In concoction very nice and I am happy to have gotten this.
