THOSE WHO SERVE

The Samurai were the warrior knights of feudal Japan. The chaotic 16th century Sengoku period provided ample opportunity to hone martial skills and those who made a name for themselves as warriors could even rise to the rank of Samurai from the peasant class. Much as the knight ruled the European battlefields, the Samurai were the warrior elite of Japan.

This hard plastic box set allows you to field up to 192 10mm infantry and 32 cavalry equipped with yari (spear/pike), naginata (pole arm), yumi (longbow), and katana (sword). You can see the mix of one, two, three, and five man strips on the back of the box with the variety of weapons. There are also 12 casualty figures included to use for scenic basing or as markers.

Models require assembly and painting. Bases are not included. Not for Children. Contents may vary from photos.

Very useful but not perfect

The figures are good, the groupings are helpful and flexible and the cavalry models are great. As for the problems, there are thin films of plastic between some of the legs etc. and there are far too few cavalry. I see there are plans for a command box (which is great). Perhaps in the future you will make a cavalry only box or a cavalry plus baggage box so the the ratio of infantry to cavalry can be adjusted. I hope you have plans for more boxes in your Japanese range, particularly peasant levies, peasants, townsfolk and entertainers.

Good stuff!

Excellent quality. Also shipping to Germany was handled from the UK. I expected shipping from the US, so it took way less time than I thought.

10 mm Ashigaru and Samurai

Purchase met all my expectations. Delivery service was excellent. Look forward to future figures in same line. I would like to see a set of rules for samurai era mass battles that takes advantage of 10 mm scale allowing large number of figures in reasonable table area.

Exciting new line of 10mm

Seeing Wargamers Atlantic Samuri and Ashigura 10mm figure line only excites me about their other upcoming 10mm line of figures coming out. Truly a great idea for gamers!

Outstanding Value and Great Detail

I did not know I need to start a 10mm feudal Japanese army until I saw this set and its companion Ashigaru! Like their much larger Wargames Atlantic cousins, the minis are detailed and well cast with minimal cleanup. My "expertise" on this area and time frame is limited to the recent Shogun tv series so for what it's worth, the weapons, armor and general appearance seem right for the period. I especially like the decision to provide a mix of strip sizes for each sprue - from single figures up through groups of five. This allows a wide variety of basing schemes depending on your favorite rules while retaining the inherent advantage of this scale - being able to paint by the strip and amass a large force quickly. Also, having some singles available allows those of us who like to play out teeny tiny 1-1 skirmishes is extra nice. The only issue I have encountered so far is that some of the detail is so fine - especially the girth of the spear and pole arm shafts - you will need to take extra care in removing them from the sprues. Overall great set. Will likely buy a couple more boxes plus any add on elements. Also really looking forward to further development of this Grand Battle scale line.
