Einherjar Conversion Heads (and a few other conversion ideas)

  • While I appreciate the Nordic theme of the space dwarfs, one thing that I think would be kinda cool (and would instantly create a new race) would be some alternate heads and weapon arms for them.

One idea- Orc snout, with elf ears and fur. Big round eyes. Six fingered hands on arms with wrist mounted energy guns. Basic line infantry based around close assault in confined spaces like undergound dens and the cramped confines of their space ships. Include some helmeted heads for use in toxic environments and zero pressure.

For a generic head set, one with the Ooh-Rah! fully helmeted head, as well as the cannon fodder hazard suit head would be nice. And if there are designs for Ooh-Rah! female heads with helmets, that would be awesome as well. While there are enough of those hads for those sets, I started using the Ooh-Rah! open helmets on my cannon fodder bodies, and the cannon fodder hazard helmets on my Brit-Bois (Bulldogs). Both look excellent.

Also- some shorter weapons for the Brit-Bois would be most outstanding.

What are some other conversion components people would like to see?

  • i have been very tempted by the einharjar but the heads kinda threw me off. some stuff i think might be cool:

    - industrial/hard hats

    - gas masks (always cool)

    - sculpted metal beards (specifically thinking of oath mark heavy infantry)

    - dome/astronaut heads, purely because i think space soldiers should be equipped for space

in terms of general heads, i'd love to see more tacticool stuff. gas masks, visors, night vision, etc. last but not least: something swooped back and sleek, like clone troopers or tau. specifically id really like to make some 80s anime/sci fi styles guys, with lots of thrusters and gauntlets and stuff. ooh rah come close, but they need slimmer waists and to roll down their god damn sleeves!

  • @timbus the thirteenth As a Marine myself- the sleeves need rolled down, if for no other reason than they could be used for "space Marines." My biggest gripes with the Ooh-Rah! set (aside from the name) is that you can't make them all with their basic rifle in a firing or tactical carry. That's one thing the Eisenkern kits get right is that they are all well posed for basic infantry, and you can deck them out as standard riflemen. I used the Eisenkern SMGs for my Ooh-Rah! guys along with some leftover stormtrooper arms and they look legit AF. Coupled with the visored helsm, and they look like they're ready to deal with a ship board firefight.

As to the heads, some space suit typ heads would be cool, and that's how I see the enviroment suits heads from the cannonf odder. They work REALLY well with the Space Brits. All the elements of the bodies match those heads near perfectly.

  • I've never actually handled the Einjerjar kit, I've thought of buying a box more than once at least for the bits, but never got around to it.  If they were available as bonus sprues for The Damned crowdfunding project, I probably asked for some, but if not, maybe one day I'll finally get around to getting this kit:  I've always liked the concept and the way it looks.

The female heads from the Cannon Fodder set MIGHT work well with the Einherjar for female dwarves, if the Ooh-Rah heads and Cannon Fodder gas masks fit and look proportional.

I for one could really get behind the ideas above for industrial hard hats, astronaut/space armor helmets, gas mask/rebreathers.  More sci-fi melee weapons (axes, hammers, chain-swords, and whatnot) would be interesting, as would non-combat gear (medic kits and tools, communicators, scanners, tools, "psyker" implements... those are cool-looking inclusions in the command set for The Damned, and somethig of that sort seems to me like they'd suit the Eiherjar well, too!)

A broader selection of alternate weapons is something I could get behind for all the sets, really, and would also be a subject for general-purpose conversion sprues I'd love to see:  alternative takes on sci-fi weaponry, for example, or an SMG sprue with different styles of SMGs including comparatively rare ones or sci-fi options, a sprue of generic heavy weapons or improvised and civilian weapons and tools, or whatever.  (For example, I saw somone expressing regret for the Partisans sets that they didn't include more rifles instead of SMGs, given that popular wargame rules specify rifles for partisan units; an accessory sprue of different civilian riles, including a couple fantasy and sci-fi options, would be nice, and might work well with the survivors sets, or sets like the Einherjar as alternate weapons....)

I've been a proponent of conversion sprues with alien bits such as alien heads and so on for a long time, and the hairy-space-Orc-snout concept with matching arms would be a great example, IMHO:  it would work great for modifying the Einherjar, yes, but as a conversion sprue it would work just as well for any of he Death Fields kits, or on the historical models as well (I can picture these sorts of bits on armored Roman bodies, for example, as retro sci-fi baddies....)

  • @Battle Specter I get why it exists, but I'm picky about my aesthetics and will happily sacrifice realism if need be.That said, there is a very nice-looking heavy version of ooh rah, but its stuck in digital. Maybe in the same way WGA does both bulldogs and grognards, they could do a slightly different version of ooh rah with more of a modern vibe instead of leaning sci-fi. I love tacticool, but both ooh rah and operators have really wide waists and skinny legs, which is probably realistic but looks goofy to me. I agree with regards to rifles, though, as it can be weirdly hard to give a guy a gun in any pose other than the awkward leftward lean. I cannot count the amount of times I've had to shave a rifle into a leaning-on-shoulder or carried-in-one-hand pose.

@Yronimos Whateley my heart is saying fifth element baddies.

  • @Battle Specter Hmm, well Northstar kits seem pretty compatable with the Death Fields space dwarfs, I wanted to do an Islamic  space corsair themed dwarf force for general purpose scifi games, so I used one of the turban heads from the Frostgrave Ghost Archpligo kit for a leader and it worked just fine. Northstar does quite a few Crew kits for stargrave which have xeno heads so those migh work for you.
