THE LIGHT OF FOOT

The Ashigaru (“light of foot” in Nihongo) were the backbone of 16th and early 17th century Japanese armies. Originally wandering mercenaries that came from peasant stock, they were organized into more formal units as the centuries passed. Over time they also gained in status although still existed below the Samurai class. In the later periods they accounted for between 60 and 80% of armies.

This hard plastic box set allows you to field up to 328 10mm soldiers equipped with yari (spear/pike), naginata (pole arm), yumi (longbow), and teppo (musket). You can see the mix of one, two, three, and five man strips on the back of the box with the variety of weapons. There are also 12 casualty figures included to use for scenic basing or as markers.

Models require assembly and painting. Bases are not included. Not for Children. Contents may vary from photos.

Big Army in a small box

Really great value for how much you get on just four sprues. Yes the spears are very fragile. Some of the bows too. But there's only about 3 specific spots on the sprue where its very challenging to cut without breaking a spear off. Other than that, everything is removed easily from the sprue. I think I will buy several more boxes in the future despite the fragile spears.

Poor sprue layout

The miniatures are great. The detail is perfect for the scale. You get plenty of models for what you pay for. But, the sprue layout is horrendous. The gates that connect to the minatures are such a hassel to try and delicately remove. Slightest mistake and you've broken the miniature. absolutely a pain in the ass to remove all the miniatures and then spend time trying to fix and repair all the broken pieces.

Canadian Shipping was Excellent

Was received in a week when ordered. Canadian orders will come from the UK. $22 customs fee. Love these guys, just wish their poses weren't all consistently flat. Will be buying more when this set is painted!

Useful Scale

Just the right scale (10mm), good variety of troop types, and nice detail for the scale. I plan to use them for several boardgames (Ikuza, C&C Samurai Battles) as well as for miniature battles.

Good but need work

Models themselves look great but like many others here the spears are just terrible. 5 were already snapped in the box when I received them and then many more still snapped, even with a very good and sharpe pair of cutters. Feels like a waste when you have some many missing spears. Personally I would bother getting another box of these due purely to the spears. Bowmen and handhunners are fantastic though.
