THE LIGHT OF FOOT

The Ashigaru (“light of foot” in Nihongo) were the backbone of 16th and early 17th century Japanese armies. Originally wandering mercenaries that came from peasant stock, they were organized into more formal units as the centuries passed. Over time they also gained in status although still existed below the Samurai class. In the later periods they accounted for between 60 and 80% of armies.

This hard plastic box set allows you to field up to 328 10mm soldiers equipped with yari (spear/pike), naginata (pole arm), yumi (longbow), and teppo (musket). You can see the mix of one, two, three, and five man strips on the back of the box with the variety of weapons. There are also 12 casualty figures included to use for scenic basing or as markers.

Models require assembly and painting. Bases are not included. Not for Children. Contents may vary from photos.

Fantasticly Detailed Figures for such a small scale

The figures are highly detailed and are easy to paint and look great when finished. The only down side is that some parts break easily when you try and remove them from the sprues. Perhaps if the figures weren't attached to the sprues by so many connections. I would definately recommend these figures to others.

A well built model kit.

These "Light foot" 16th century infantry are very detailed given that there are both Ocupuse/rifles and Yuri/ bowman. These are the first 10 millimeter models I've ever tried and I found the experience to be a fun, confidence building experience. They paint up great and look terrific. Can't wait to finish and start the next Grand Scale adventure!

Amazing detail

Having dabbled in 10mm before (metal and GW Bo5A) I am absolutely stunned at how good these little fellows are. Barely a hint of a mould line. Excellent, highly paintable details. Are the pikes a little tricky, yes, but well worth it in my opinion! I broke one and then got focused and all was good. Would give 6 stars if I could. Very much looking forward to the English for Agincourt!

Good but flawed

Look amazing but have some flaws. The fragile pikes are almost impossible to remove and clean up without a huge amount of breakages. Looking at having to drill and replace 360 pikes which is a pain. Some are already broken on the sprue so it is not a skill issue. They are also not going to hold up to handling. It would also have been nice to have some singles at rest rather than just the ones with the yari at an angle. Great value but prep time drops the rating.
