Help Decide our Next Late Roman Sets!

Help Decide our Next Late Roman Sets!

We have a lot of great things in the works for our new Decline and Fall range with the first set Late Roman Legionaries (1): Lorica Hamata coming out soon.

Along with the Romans in mail we have a set of Goths and also two Army Builders for the Romans and the Goths (60 figures each). The main boxes will provide enough command elements to outfit several units when combined with the Army Builder boxes.

This range has several other sets in the works but we wanted to give you the choice as to which ones would come soonest.

To that end here is a survey to mark down your First, Second, and Third choices. Let us know if you have other ideas below. There are no cavalry sets listed but those will be coming later as well.

Roman Cataphractoi and klibanophoroif – even better some early Byzantine types.

Late Roman/dark age cav other than the regular Cataphractii

Enemies of Rome:

Sassanid Persians: separate or mixed cavalry boxes for cataphracts, maybe their medium and light cavalry too, as separate or options mixed in the box.

Alternatively, just a “cataphracts” box with head options for Sassanids, Late Romans and even Tibetans and Tang Chinese

Artist’s concepts of Sassanid infantry look a lot like the Achaemenid foot troops, since their costumes were similar. I read somewhere that they were used for the same tactical purpose, but were less soldiers and more laborers who were forced to fight by hiding behind their sparabara shields while the cavalry and archers did the fighting. It looks like their pavises (at least the ones in museums) had a similar construction to the Achaemenid ones, but were a pointed shape instead of rectangular. And they were more likely to have helmets and armor too. So maybe we could see some head and pavise options for the Achaemenid box thrown in with a potential Sassanid set to allow conversions.

Picts, especially if the set can cover the Dark Ages too.

Greetings and salutations,

You guys are simply awesome. Would I be correct in assuming that these late Romans are appropriate for a Belissarian army under Justinian? I have always wanted to do one and you make it financially viable.

You really are making minis that fulfil my needs and fancies. Pander Lehr, Partisans, greenjackets, I cannot wait for the Prussian reserves (oh boy!), Eisenkern… now late Romans. Thank you.

Please try to keep your ranges at the current price point. I know you could charge more, but your current pricing (if sustainable) will ensure an ever increasing market share. You have also been excellent in identifying niches that lack options out there but are still viable. I have been waiting for over 10 years for Prussian reserves that are not from Calpe or War games Foundry, whose cost is prohibitively expensive.

Bless your cotton socks. In a few short months you have gathered many fans. :)

Huns or picts sound good

I’d like to see Huns

I don’t expect this to gain traction but it would be nice to see Roman era civilians in a multi part kit. When towns are being sacked fleeing peoples getting in the way of troops or refugee columns, camp followers, and servants would be useful. They could also be used as criminals in the arena or lightly armed auxiliary.
Please no sci-fi parts or aliens.
