The Bulldogs: A Tactical Guide to the Empire’s Finest in the Arena

The Bulldogs: A Tactical Guide to the Empire’s Finest in the Arena

If the Bulldogs represent the "morbid tapestry" of Earth’s imperial history, their performance in the Death Fields Arena is defined by a singular, dogged focus: maintaining the line under pressure. While other factions may rely on raw alien power or high-tech gadgetry, a Bulldog team wins through superior coordination, stress management, and the tactical brilliance of its specialized leadership.

Command and Control: The Heart of the Team

Every Bulldog team is built around its Captain, and your choice here dictates your entire army's playstyle:

 * The Red Devil: Ideal for aggressive, close-quarters play. His Who Dares Wins ability allows the team to ignore Stress modifiers to their Movement, ensuring they can close the distance rapidly. With an Energy Sabre and Killer’s Instinct, he is a melee powerhouse capable of re-rolling his own attack dice.

 * Master of The Line: The definitive choice for a defensive, ranged-focused squad. His Volley Fire! grants a +1 Attack bonus to models within 2" of a comrade, and more importantly, ensures they do not receive Stress from making a Fire Back Reaction.

 * The Old Sweat: A master of endurance. His Stiff Upper Lip trait allows models to remove 1 Stress at the start of their activation and makes the Recover Action significantly more effective by rolling 2d5 and choosing the highest result.

Specialist Units: Precision and Power

The Bulldogs utilize a range of specialists to handle specific threats in the Arena:

 * Brew Sgt. (Limit 2): Perhaps the most "Bulldog" unit of all, he is essential for keeping the team's morale high. His Cuppa? action can completely wipe away all Stress from a model in base contact.

 * The Whistler (Limit 2): A template-weapon specialist. This unit uses "The Whistler" to deliver a high-damage area attack that ignores the need for distance measurement and prevents targets from making a Fire Back Reaction.

 * L.M.G. Gunner (Limit 2): Provides massive suppression fire. While the weapon has the Slow keyword (limiting it to one attack per activation), its Saturated Fire ability allows for re-rolls at the cost of Stress, and its Crit Stress note means natural "0" rolls pile even more pressure onto the defender.

 * Combat Medic (Limit 2): A vital support role, the Medic can use an action to heal d5 wounds on themselves or an adjacent ally.

Core Tactics and Rules

To master the Bulldogs, you must leverage their unique interactions with the Stress System:

 * Mutual Support: Units like the Rifleman gain massive benefits from staying close to their allies. Their In the line ability allows them to ignore the negative Stress modifier to Ranged Attack rolls if they are within 2" of a friendly model.

 * Movement Shenanigans: The Tommy unit uses Pepper Potting to make a free 2" move after a Ranged Attack Action, allowing the team to advance or retreat while maintaining a steady stream of fire.

 * Weapon Synergy: The Bulldog arsenal is versatile. From the short-range, Mobile fire of the SMG and Revolver (which ignore penalties for moving before shooting) to the long-range punch of the Electrocannon with its Shock keyword, every weapon is designed to either minimize incoming stress or maximize the opponent's.

In the Death Fields, the Bulldogs prove that while empires may fall, the discipline of a well-drilled soldier is eternal. Keep your line tight, your bayonets fixed, and never let the enemy see you sweat.
