A NEW KIND OF WARGAMES BASE

These are a new kind of 25mm round base that has been designed to work with figures that have either an integral “puddle” base or flat feet. One side has a 23mm x 1mm indented recess so that figures with puddle bases will have their feet flush with the edge and eliminate that “standing on a hill” look. The other side is flat for figures which will have their feet glued directly to the base. These bases have a low 2mm profile to blend well with the tabletop and there is also a 3mm x 1mm hole to add a magnet for secure storage or for use with a movement tray. 60 bases per box.

Models require assembly and painting.

25mm dual use bases

Using these for miniatures with "puddle" bases ...
Great so far.

I hate puddle bases and I am glad somebody made this product.

The lip is not high enough to totally negate the puddle on the Northstar figures I got these for. What works really well is a cheap orbital sander. I haven't experimented with finer and coarser grit, but either one should work. Anyway, you grind about a millimeter off the bottom of the puddle, and then you plastic cement the rest of it right into these. The lip is high enough that you don't have to totally grind away the puddle and risk snapping a leg off. I've actually had the legs snap off of minis even from trying to take their base off with clippers, because the cutting jaw does impart some lateral force as it bites in. So! Ten or twenty seconds with the sander plus one of these is the best solution. Note that if for some reason you have a resin mini with a puddle base, DO NOT sand it without a much more serious respirator than you would use for plastic.

I do think the name isn't great. "Dual Use" bases is sorta silly, there's no reason to get these and then use them lip-down. Just call it a Bucket Base - that's what I've been doing informally, and I think it's more descriptive.

Pictured is an unpainted mini stuck on one of these bases. I put some black stuff down to fill in the bucket and sprinkled some snow over that. Looks good, can't complain. And the price is right.

A step up, without an extra step up.

25mm bases are possibly the most common base size being used right now, and usually they seem to be clones of the old GW slotta base, with or without slot. And they are fine, they are bases. Where these bases are an improvement is their design - They can be used either side up. One side is flat, if you have figures without bases, you can just glue them in place. If you flip the base, it has a recessed surface with a lip around the sides, perfect to attach a puddle base. The two figures will have identical bases, neither higher than the other. As a bonus, the base has a hole the right size for a 3mm magnet, allowing you to easily adapt the bases for magnetic storage. Recommended.

A very useful box

I love these bases. I hope we'll see different sizes added to the range.
