My Orc Project

  • I generally don't paint or game too much fantasy stuff these days but I've had my eye on the Wargames Atlantic Orcs for a while now.

I picked up a box and started painting them. I'm about halfway through the box but they paint up well with a basic paint job.

They are based on 40mm squares with dice trays added. The idea is that I can use them with either Chipco's Fantasy Rules or Fantastic Battles by Nic Wright. Look forward to finishing these fellas up and ultimately buying an opposing army for them to fight.

More information here on my blog: https://lecoqfou.blogspot.com/2025/10/wargames-atlantic-orcs.html

As I continue to paint up this army, I plan to post here as well.

  • They look very sharp! Makes me wish I could get started on the yet-to-be released Grand Battle Scale Azincourt models.

How long would you say it took you per infantry model? I have no experience painting anything smaller than 28mm scale so very curious how much faster these would be to paint.

  • @Bertrand du Guesclin Thanks for the kind words, as for the time it takes to paint... that's a hard question to answer (although a good one). I have a friend who times his painting sessions to know the exact number. My painting sessions are very stop and start and a bit  unfocused.

The key to painting 6mm and 10mm, especially in strips, is not to treat them as little 28mm figures.i find a black primer and quick dabs of paint to give the impression of whatever it is you are painting works best.

I'm actually using these orcs as my practice run for the Azincourt armies (I'm also eagerly anticipating their release).

  • Managed to get the swordsmen and command stands finished up. Used a few of the casualty figures to tart up some of the swordsmen bases. Next up are the archers which will complete the army. I'm very tempted to get those Dwarves.
