THOSE WHO SERVE

The Samurai were the warrior knights of feudal Japan. The chaotic 16th century Sengoku period provided ample opportunity to hone martial skills and those who made a name for themselves as warriors could even rise to the rank of Samurai from the peasant class. Much as the knight ruled the European battlefields, the Samurai were the warrior elite of Japan.

This hard plastic box set allows you to field up to 192 10mm infantry and 32 cavalry equipped with yari (spear/pike), naginata (pole arm), yumi (longbow), and katana (sword). You can see the mix of one, two, three, and five man strips on the back of the box with the variety of weapons. There are also 12 casualty figures included to use for scenic basing or as markers.

Models require assembly and painting. Bases are not included. Not for Children. Contents may vary from photos.

A detailed look at 16th century.

These models are highly detailed sculptures.
I'm really surprised and impressed by the quality of the kit. High standards at a reasonable price. Thank you Wargames Atlantic and the team that designed them and boxed them.

Great but one pedantic complaint

These are great - the bows and swords are fragile like the pikes on the ashigaru but are more easily removed and glued if there is a breakage.

My only complaint is the yari cavalry - my understanding is they should be holding the yari two handed and steering with the knees like the horse archers. They are sculpted like they are jousting with the spear couched under one arm.

Nice detail, they paint up well and have a good selection of poses. Good dynamic horse poses too

ashigaru and samurai

The packaging and shipping was very satisfactory. The variety of figures is obviously designed for gaming use. The casting was flawless, with little if any
clean-up work.

The only cons were fragility and posing. I will suffer fragility if it means anatomically correct sculpts. Thin brass rod was stockpiled in case there are any disasters. The poses are more 7 Years War than sengoku Jiddai but the
use of the odd numbered figures can add some much needed chaos to the ranks.
All told, I would rank Atlantic very highly and would have zero qualms about ordering again.

as I wrote for Ashigaru, samurai are also beautiful, I really hope you will produce other historical series, of course in 10mm
