Death to Pre-orders!

Death to Pre-orders!

We've decided to make a big change here that will bring a little more peace and harmony to your Wargames Atlantic buying experience: we're kicking pre-orders to the curb!

Pre-orders are a staple of our little industry and primarily are a way for a company to avoid paying for their production costs upfront. A pre-order is in effect a mini-crowdfunding campaign. Some companies regularly have 3-4 month long pre-order windows!

Mostly we've stuck to a couple week window for pre-orders. Sometimes with things that were more left field we'd go out a bit further (to help get the word out). But since adding UK manufacturing into the mix last April/May (along with the existing US manufacturing) - and with all the various custom delays, shipping delays, etc. some of those pre-orders have ended up taking longer than we had hoped. For example, the Trench Missionaries will finally be out in the US next week (after a couple mold issues, a delay on box printing in the US, molds getting stuck in customs for three weeks, etc - like we just couldn't win on that one!)

So going forward we're not going to have pre-orders at all. When a new product goes on sale it means that it's already sitting in both warehouses and ready to ship out as soon as you place your order. No waiting around, no pre-launch delays.

But don't worry we WILL tell you that something is coming - we'll probably tell you a couple times and do some previews and show off some painted figures and the frame(s) - but when it goes up for order you won't have to guess how long it will be before it ships.

So now when you part with your hard-earned ducats, you'll know that your goodies are going to be shipping out the door straightaway!

Death to Pre-Orders!

PS regarding existing pre-orders (all in the US - the UK is caught up): French Infantry in Greatcoats and Fidwog Command are both en route to the warehouse (from Florida to Erie, PA) and should arrive there on Friday. That means both of those will start shipping from Friday. Trench Missionaries are about to be picked up to move north - so sometime next week we'll have them in stock. Now...what will be coming out next!??!? Wait and see!

That’s fine by me :) more certainty on when I can get my models as always a good thing in my book. Now speaking of models…. I eagerly await the arrival of the new French Resistance partisans… I’ve been waiting after teaser photo after teaser photo lol. :)

Probably a good PR move. Still waiting for The Damned here in Canada.

Does this change mean that new products can now be released on any day of the week, or will you stick to Friday being the (formerly pre-order) release day of the week?

Honestly, abandoning pre-orders makes a lot of sense. Its something I know is infamous with video games due to the many issues surrounding that. And, to be honest I don’t really know why its a staple in the tabletop miniatures industry since it doesn’t really have any added benefits. Cutting out the pre-order middle man and saying “this stuff will be coming around this time, and you’ll be able to order it right on that day” makes a lot more sense.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of your products released. Also, I LOVE the Damned box I got from gamefound, though I’m hoping to see when the rest of the boxes will release since apparently I only got one sprue of the beastmen, which I don’t necessarily mind since that means if I get a separate box of beastmen later I’ll have 30 of them. I’m just super excited to start working on all those minis and making a full blown army out of them.

Now I’m just wondering when that voting thing for the rest of the ranges will start since I’ve only noticed voting for just the historical ranges.

Great decision! Much appreciated.

Hi James – the work we do for outsource customers belongs to them so it’s really up to them as to when they want or can release things. We just make it for them!

James - February 25, 2026

You are beautiful people for going down this route.
Will this extend to kickstarters/crowd funding or client work?
Understandable if not.
I figure it’s a bit of a drag to have moulds made and ready and waiting on them to remove thumb.

Drangir - February 25, 2026

Wow, that’s a bold – but very appreciated – move!

Wargames Atlantic - February 25, 2026

Matthew – lol we rarely pay attention to what Warlord is up to! Sorry!

Matthew Gingerich - February 25, 2026

That’s understandable, out of curiosity, was this desicion also influenced by what happened with Warlord games and the Soviet Bloc?

Don’t mind note having pre-orders, sounds like a smart desicion actually.
