Preview: Classic Fantasy Battles Boneblades!

The Dwarven Host will soon be with us but we wanted to show the next set coming to Classic Fantasy Battles: The Boneblades!

Unlike the initial two releases for CFB - which featured a full frame that included a variety of unit types for one race - future releases for CFB will be unit-based. When I say "unit" I mean 9 40mm x 20mm bases of the same type of troop (as shown below).

The reason for this approach is to give you a great deal of customizability in building your armies. Remember, as CFB is launched the focus will be Good vs Evil armies - so you can take any appropriate (Good or Evil or one of the ones that can be either) units into your army.

Then, over time, as we release more of the Undead units, you will be able to build a full Undead army as well!

This hard plastic box set includes 117 figures and bases from which you can build:

  • 108 Skeletons with Sword and Shield (9 bases)
  • 3 2-Skeleton Command
  • 3 Casualties
  • and 48 skulls!

Tooling (as you can see below) is finished, the molds are due for injection, the box is designed and off to the printer, and we will have these out to you in short order!

See you next time!

Exactly what Javier above said. I totally get the “focused sprue” concept, but then, once the range of a given race is complete, it would be great to provide a “faction starter” with a bit of every unit. We love variety!

Looking good and looking forward. I’ve always wondered how a skeleton musician is able to blow a trumpet? It’s the lack of lips that has me confused.

I’ll take 8 boxes please!

TheRedbee - July 31, 2025

This is the Grand Scale army I’m most excited for! Can’t wait.

They look great going to be ordering a lot of these.

You have no idea how excited this makes me. The sculpts are on par with resin 3d printing, but oh lord the joy of working with injection molded plastic is a dream. The orcs were some of my favorite to work with in years of hobbying. Detail is slightly different compared to other methods, but dangit its one hundred percent my favorite

Keep them coming! Cant wait to have orcs & undead. Ill have to get some Ogres too

Looking forward to the next few units! I will say while I understand the benefits of single unit type releases, I still hope the mixed unit boxes make a return eventually. Single unit type boxes are useful for the game no doubt, and one can never have too many skeletons, but I’m skeptical about some of the other units being useful in other games in such high quantities, which may limit the appeal (compared to the orc and dwarf boxes, which easily translate to versatile, well-rounded armies for many rulesets).

I wonder if there’s a chance of something like the 28mm Skeleton Army box in the future, but for the Classic Fantasy Battles minis, as a potential army starter set for future factions. Once all the sprues for a specific faction are made, I’d also love to see mixed unit boxes for them.

Out of the 36 figs (not including the dead guy and the command) there are only 12 sculpts… It was the same way with the goblins. I know they fight as units, but even a slight variation would add so much to how they look formed up. But instead, no matter how creatively you base them, the repeated pattern jumps out at you.
