The Shot Heard Round the World!

The Shot Heard Round the World!

Today, here in New England, we are kicking off the start of a special year in America: the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the American Revolution!

To celebrate we have two new hard plastic box sets that will be the first in a new Age of Reason range which will cover the late 1600s to the early 1800s.

The first two sets for the Age of Reason are focused on the Battles of Lexington and Concord (April 19. 1775) and the Battle of Bunker Hill (June 17, 1775).

Both sets have been sculpted by Rob Macfarlane and Peter Dennis has kindly done the illustrations for the boxes.

The first set are Minutemen, the colonial militias who banded together and trained throughout the colonies to oppose the British. This will be a 30 figure set featuring a variety of firing/loading/advancing poses, multiple musket types, and a diverse selection of heads.

The second set are the 5th Regiment of Foot Grenadiers who took place in the action during both battles. This will also be a 30 figure set of Grenadiers skirmishing with Brown Bess muskets.

As you can see both sets are already tooled. Stephan Huber is in the process of painting the models and we will soon have them available! Mark your calendars as both sets will be on pre-order Friday May 2nd!

More sets will follow for this range. Please let us know what you would like to see!

Would like to see some Continental Marines.

I would love some boxes for the armies of the Sun King and then Seven Years war/Austrian Succession if y’all weren’t planning on that already.

I have been intrigued by the “garrison troops” in the colonies way before the AWI broke out. They’re at the end of a long logistics train.
See Paul Revere’s woodcut of the Boston Massacre. The uniforms are halfway between FIW and the “official” 1769 Warrant.
If we assume that Revere made them from life (he actually plagiarized them 🙄), they can be taken as “authentic”. More authentic than later educated guesses.

I think it would be interesting to explore the Great Northern War in this range. It could be especially interesting to explore the final death throes of pikes in warfare seeing as they were still in use by the Russians in this period I believe.

One simple request – Please don’t make the muskets as thick as telephone poles.

Drives me crazy…..

James MacLennan – we have gone very granular with this set. These are grenadiers of the 5th (Northumberland) Regiment of Foot.

Something I forgot in my earlier comment was the British Light Infantry, just as important as the Grenadiers and saw plenty of action shielding the British when they withdrew. They would have appeared in every part of this theatre of operations. Some extra heads for the British would be handy as they did have a different headress in some regiments in the south and these should be considered as an addition when making the center companies. Could also have Marine headress for these as well.

These look great! There’s an unmet need for plastic unarmed civilians (both European and native American) for this era, that would be useful in games of FIW/SYW and AWI like Muskets and Tomahawks. The minutemen bodies would do the trick for european males along with some agricultural arm options like the pitchfork arms in the peasant levy set and some tricorn heads on the villagers set would also make for a pretty varied 18th century civilian population

James MacLennan - April 19, 2025
The 5th are a Fusilier Regiment not Grenadiers who were detached from their regiments to form ad hoc battalions
