Updates on Both Sides of Pond Production
From the very beginning, Wargames Atlantic was a multi-continent company with resources in North America, Europe, Asia, and occasionally some of the other continents! You may have noticed we have always put "Designed on Both Sides of the Pond" on the bottom of our boxes and in our print ads. But with the monumental shift to doing plastic production in both the United States and United Kingdom, we're changing that tagline to say: "Made on Both Sides of the Pond"!
Our UK operation is in full swing with over 100K plastic "shots" soon to be completed. The US operation continues to chug along as normal. We've been adjusting to the new reality of sending molds to the UK and starting to understand more of the complexities of managing inventory and production requirements between the two warehouses when we are producing in two locations 4000 miles away from each other.
We want to minimize the wait time for getting all the new products into your hands. For that reason, we've decided to temporarily step back from our self-imposed requirement of a global release date for each product (a global release date means that when the product is officially released it's already pre-positioned in both warehouses and ready to ship on that specific day to everyone who pre-ordered it).
So as we get the new system fully into swing and can make better projections, we're going to release products as soon as they arrive at whichever warehouse they happen to be. That means that currently the Minutemen, Grenadiers, and Satyr Brutes are already shipping out of our US warehouse. The molds are en route to the UK and boxes are waiting for plastic, but it will be a couple weeks before they can be sent from the UK warehouse.
The Barricades/Marketplace set will be on order this Friday - it is already in the US warehouse and plastic is running now in the UK - so it will ship out in the UK a little later than the US. Conversely, the new Quar Tractors molds are in the UK and will run soon so these sets will be out to the UK and everywhere other than the US before the molds ship to the US and we run the plastic and box it here. We will continue doing this this way until we get caught up with releases and then we'll shift back to having everything done and in place well before the global release date.
To be honest, this isn't much different from what we used to do when plastic would arrive in different warehouses at different times and one warehouse would ship theirs out before the others. In an ideal world, we want to be back to global release dates so when we say "X product is going to be released on Y date" you will know that no matter if you're in Chicago, London, Warsaw, Sydney, or Taiwan that your pre-order will be shipping off to you at the same time as everyone else's.
Sorry for the messiness! Our goal is to get as many hard plastic sets out as we possibly can between now and the New Year. We're also going to be updating some other things around here: including the Release Schedule page and making many more preview posts about what's in the works. Lots of exciting plastics to come!
In more exciting news, the tooling floor is in disarray as we prepare to move another milling machine in later this week!
Come back soon and we'll have a series of updates on this blog about upcoming sets!
