Catgirl Cannonfodder Project Log

    So awhile ago i'd picked up some catgirl heads for a project. sadly it didn't work out due to some scale issues with the base minis i was using, but i realized that since they looked like they'd fit on my stargrave kits, they'd probably fit onto WGA figueres. so bought a box of cannofodder II (and ordered some resin tails) and started kitbashing. i got some primer on my first 6 last week.

    currently these are just going to be a short platoon (2 squads of ten and a command squad of 5), depending on how these turn out i might expand these into a full army. or maybe just run it as a detachment in a mixed force. (probably using Xenos Rampant, but honestly trying to keep these fairly rules generic)

     

    so far i've built 4 troopers

    and a squad leader (with the Rifle) and a command squad member (pistol). gave each a melee weapon to help make them stand out. the squad leader has a hatchet, and the commander a sheathed short sword. hopefulyl i have enough in my bitz box to kit out both squad leaders and all 4 command squad members with something that looks decent.

    (i had to do some trimming to the squad leader's pack to make the carried rifle pose work.)

    and the resin figure i got to be the unit commander:

    (hopefulyl that sword doesn't end up too fragile.)

     

     

    sorry if the pics are a little iffy.. my new phone's camera is way better than my old one, but i'm still learning settings. (got to find the Macro mode at least before i take more)

    @Brian Van De Walker heads by Minigames Miniatures (obtained off ebay), tails by ResinMunitorum on etsy. Resinmunitorum sells a full conversion kit with 24 catgirl heads and 24 tails in a distinct style, i had to custom order just the tails to match the heads i already had.

    still thinking on what non-infantry stuff i want to add to this army. might grab a Mantic strider kit, to make a AMP suit like support vehicle.

    @Mithril2098 I know where you got them from you FB post, but I also know those have STLs on the market as I have seen them seen them before.

    apologies for the lack of updates. i'm afraid my muse is a fickle thing prone to distracting me with other projects. still haven't painted the first 6, but last night i finally sat down and tackled assembling the rest of the bodies. including an extra 5 made from a sprue of male cannonfodder bodies i picked up. (femboy catpeople are a thing, right? 😸) turned those into a support weapons team using the plasmaguns. so with the officer that'll give me 30 troops. two squads of ten, a 5 person command team, and a 5 person support team. just need to figure out some backpacks for the support team. i'm sure i've got some stuff floating around my bitz box that'll work. just the heads and tails to glue on now. (the heads need trimming to fit the neck, and the tails are fiddly to hold in place while they glue sets. so wanted to do them last.)

    and sadly that'll run out my supply of tails. i can source more heads easily on ebay, but Resinmunitorum shut down last year, and with it my source of the parts (and the various figures i'd hoped to use to expand this army.) i picked up the STL's from the creator's MMF at least so i can still do them in the future if i can find a resin printer service nearby, but i'm thinking that i should probably focus on expanding this catgirl army with other kit options until then. (certainly considering the Mauler truck from the Damned line if it's affordable.)

    hopefully when the Cannonfodder command and heavy weapons kit finally shows up i'll have a source for the resin parts again.

    @Mithril2098 hmm, it should be less than "new from GW" vehicles, but thats not saying much on that front though it well be a great kit.  If  price point is your main concern and you need more vehicles, I would tool around ebay and look for 1/48 anime kits or Meng Toon Tanks, those would both look great with CCG force your making, and if your really need "base set this" there are a ton of 3D print out vehicles for sale on Ebay at reasonable prices with 40k in mind.

    been making a list of 1/48 or 1/56 scale affordable kits (less than $40 generally, since that's the lower end of GW's stuff), biggest problem has been finding relatively modern stuff that isn't a tank. things like IFV's and APC's seem very scarce in useful scale and price.

    Rubicon ( 1/56 scale plastic ) has a couple  M-113 variants  , Centurians , M-48 Patton , T 54 & 55 , a 8 wheeled Russian BTR 60 armored car  and some amphibious PT-76 thingy . Beautiful kits with lots of detail / options .I have the T54/55 & 60 in the pile to build after a pair of Stug IIIs. If you go to their website, forums section ,   they have a list of all their kits with a view of sprues and assembly instructions

    at the moment i'm going to let it stand at 30 infantry, since i've got other projects to work on without spending money. (with summer coming up, where i'll be living on savings with no paycheck [i work for a school], that is an important detail.) like the Quar crusaders. or salvaging an old unfinished deiselpunk army project from 40k (made using the old wargames factory greatcoats.. which need headswaps and replacement of some broken guns to fix. thankfully i have some Grognard gas mask heads that'll work for them, and plenty of spare arms from those sets in my bitzbox. plus a bunch of ogres and a bazillion goblins to do for my Kings of War army.

     

    as i said, i get distracted by new projects too often.

    Found a FLGS that does 3D printing, did a small unit of Rangers (snipers) and some characters (including a tank commander*) as a trial run. Got plans to order some heavy weapons and a squad of heavy infantry for these catts.

    5 Rangers, a pilot, a business catt, a tank commander, and a sample figure for the heavy infantry (the one with the mechanical arm on the pack)

    *Though it was only afterwards i realized the tank i wanted to use her with doesn't have an open hatch option. So either i find a different tank or find a way to modify the one i have. (Or find another use for the figure)

    @Mithril2098 Why not use the Mauler once its general released? By the way do they have seated cat girls?

    @Brian Van De Walker no seated ones that i know of. For any of his lines. But thats a good idea, I'll pass it on to him. He's working on updates to some of the older models and on filling some gaps.

    And Maulers would definitely fit these well, just don't have budget for additional vehicles yet of any kind. i have a 1:48th JGSDF scout car converted into a combat car, and an old 1:48th Leopard 2A4 kit I'd converted a decade ago into a 40K leman russ vanquisher proxy, for them thus far.

    No pics of the Leopard available yet.

     

     

     

    Edit: apparently there are a couple in his Idunni line with one of the vehicles, but thats it.

    quickie update.. got some pics of my "Leopard Russ" which i figure i'll be adding to these catts as heavy support. it's an old 1:48 scale cheap tank kit i converted. might need to redo the pintle mount with a bit of extra detail. pics taken on my new phone, and i put my dollar tree cutting mat under it for some size reference. (it has a 1 inch grid)

      

    found another 1:48 leopard 2 kit for under $25 on amazon, so might be building a 2nd one soon, probably as a command vehicle. (willing to take suggestions for what Russ variant to do for that one.. leaning towards the plasma cannon or volkite variant, if i can source the right gun)

    going to be basing my 3d printed figures tonight during my chatroom RPG session, will update on those in a bit, maybe with a full army pic.

    it's a bit of a weird project, i'll admit. all the more so in that i don't really have any specific game in mind (though i've been trying to keep compatibility with stuff like xenos rampant, OPR's grimdark future, etc as an factor.)

    but to be honest, it is kinda nice to be able to build something just for the fun of it.

    (and i'm seriously thinking of getting another box of the cannonfodder to add more infantry, now that i have access to a place that does affordable 3D printing for the conversion parts)
