Multi-Part Hard Plastic Witch Hunters / Puritan Zealots

  • With all the incredible kits coming out of the Classic Fantasy line (and Atlantic Digital), I feel like there’s one major theme the plastic wargaming world is desperately missing right now: A dedicated, multi-part Witch Hunter / Monster Hunter kit.

Right now, if you want to build a grim, puritan-style warband or monster-hunting coven, your options are mostly high-priced single-pose resin characters, old OOP metals, or expensive boutique minis. Wargames Atlantic is in a prime position to completely own this niche with a hard plastic box set.

    Why This Needs to Happen

    Massive Cross-System Appeal:

Skirmish Games: Absolute perfection for Frostgrave, The Silver Bayonet, Mordheim, Forbidden Psalm, and many others.

Mass-Battle Armies: Ideal for Warhammer: The Old World (Empire), Age of Sigmar, and Kings of War.

RPGs: Go-to player characters and NPCs for D&D, and Pathfinder.

Kitbashing Goldmine: A set like this would seamlessly mesh with existing WGA sprues—like the Conquistadors, Foot Knights, Les Grognards, or The Damned—for endless kitbashing.

What Could Be On The Sprues?

Bodies/Attire: Long trench-style coats, high collars, leather boots, breastplates, flayed surcoats, and heavy cloaks.

Head Options: Wide-brimmed puritan/pilgrim hats, iron executioner masks, banded zealot hoods, and grim, grizzled faces.

    Weapons:

Dual flintlock pistols, heavy blunderbusses, crossbows, and stake throwers.

Rapiers, executioner broadswords, flails, torches, and stakes.

    Retinue & Accessory Bits:

Bound grimoires, hanging lanterns, iron chains, relics, and holy braziers.

Options to build hysterical zealots/flagellants or hound-masters.

Dream inclusion: A pair of hunting hounds on the sprue!

WGA has proven time and again that they can pack maximum value and modularity into a box. A 12-to-24-man plastic kit of grim puritan hunters would be an instant buy for so many of us.

What do you all think? What specific bits or options would you want to see included on a Witch Hunter sprue?

  • absol-fucking-lutely, i feel like this would be a slam dunk, especially if you can mix it with the guards kits.

We do already have the digital vampire hunters, which are a quite cool kit but isn't exactly what I think you're talking about. However, it's a good base to draw from. The main things I would personally add are:

    - Crucifixes, for pulp gaming (solomon kane, anyone?)

    - Tricorne hats

    - "Investigation" arms, for dioramas and rpgs. Things like reading a book, pointing, orating, cleaning off a blade, stuff like that

My other addition to this would be that I'd love to see a proper coven of creepy, occult witches to hunt, since they're in a similar position of not having any exact matches. There's the frostgrave wizards ii kit, but those only have two witch hats, one athame, and a generally more "friendly" aesthetic. Things I'd want from that:

    - Athames (wavy daggers)

    - Sickles, maybe?

    - Tall, pointy hats

    - Cats

    - Bandaged heads/arms

    - Dramatically posed hands (pouring from bowls, casting rituals, holding candles)

    - Staffs

    - Broomsticks (duh!)

I feel like a kit like that could be a pretty easy sprue to make, similar to the werewolves, that you can just pop out around halloween. Wouldn't need too many fancy bits, either, because of sorcerer's spoils and frostgrave. Then you can have combine it with the hunters to have a whole setting in just a handful of boxes.

  • @timbus the thirteenth I love this idea. An evil sorcerer/witch/necromancer kit would hit the spot.
Currently have plenty of undead, cultist and monster options. You're right too the vampire hunter kit is great but it's missing a lot of that witch hunter vibe.
