Fantasy Knights?

Fantasy Knights?

One of our talented sculptors was playing around with our soon-to-be-in-plastic horse bodies and created an armored version. It got us thinking about knights and cavalry for our Classic Fantasy range.

Would you be interested in a set like this? What should the riders look like? Let us know your thoughts below! (comments may not appear immediately because they have to be approved - you wouldn't believe the amount of spam posts we get!)

I’d say undead armoured and unarmoured horses would be cool… riders in high Gothic armour with an evil flair. I’ve heard Vampires are in at the moment 👀

I think 14th century style knights would be preferable, there’s already so many 15th-16th century style knights, and already in plastic from Perry minis. Better to make something that is not already covered on the market, like plastic Sipahi/Mamelukes, early HYW Knights, Song/Ming Chinese etc.

More excited to see the unarmoured horses are comming soon than the possibility of armoured ones. There are plenty of similarly barded sculpts available from other suppliers, why not provide riding beasts that are unique or rare: Bison, Rhino, Llama, Ostritch, Yak etc.

Personally I’d prefer cloth caparisons. And I think there’s a gap in the market for 14th century knights btw.

Not so keen on barded, cloth caparison might be more versatile, but as others have said Conquistador or Italian Wars cavalry could work for historicals or fantasy.
Horse archers would be even better, and depending on the figure, could fit in with Ancient/Medieval/Renaissance/Napoleonic armies.

Personal preference would be for something suitable for Ottoman Turks – can fight as Renaissance or Napoleonic, but some of them look like fantasy figures (especially Delis) anyway.

Given that the biggest demand for fantasy knights will be a certain chivalric faction from a certain game, I would recommend riders that look at least vaguely like an idealized High Middle Ages style. No need to retreat the exact same ground we’ve seen before, but that would be a good bet, IMO.

I’ll also second the request for Grognards Cavalry! I would love a box of Grognards Cavalry done up like sci-fi Napoleonic lancers.

As already noted why not dual purpse.

Gothic knights are good for Wars of The Roses Italian Wars. late 100 Years War & much more do a ix of fantasy helmets with extra bits that can be cut down to be historical plumes etc (some of which were pretty weird anyway: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3e/1518_Altdorfer_Sieg_Karls_des_Grossen_ueber_die_Awaren_anagoria_%28cropped%29.JPG

similarly lances swords and maces, ham them up for fantasy but with cut down options for historical.

Go on, you know it makes sense…

I agree that fantasy knights have been done to death so maybe some undead cavalry or undead Death Fields cavalry?

mechwarrior101 - June 18, 2021

Awesome, It even could be a “base” horse for different fantasy factions as elves, chaotic warriors, humans…

What El Camino said; Gendarmes and armoured reiters.
