Help Decide our Next Late Roman Sets!

Help Decide our Next Late Roman Sets!

We have a lot of great things in the works for our new Decline and Fall range with the first set Late Roman Legionaries (1): Lorica Hamata coming out soon.

Along with the Romans in mail we have a set of Goths and also two Army Builders for the Romans and the Goths (60 figures each). The main boxes will provide enough command elements to outfit several units when combined with the Army Builder boxes.

This range has several other sets in the works but we wanted to give you the choice as to which ones would come soonest.

To that end here is a survey to mark down your First, Second, and Third choices. Let us know if you have other ideas below. There are no cavalry sets listed but those will be coming later as well.

The Alamanni would be nice. Heck, any of the enemies listed in the old Commitatus rules set would be handy. Roman engineers, dogs with handlers, good ol’ grunt labourers would be useful. Also, Roman Cathaphrachti would be nice see, since they did exist (there are contemporary records proving this), but I’m not sure how available they are in plastic.

How about Sarmatians, they fought Rome and as mercenaries/allies in lots of ancient armies.

Roman Light Troops – in addition to archers and staff slingers would it be possible to do regular slingers and javelin armed troops as well?

Sasanian Persian

Your Achaemenid infantry set works pretty well for the infantry already when assembled with the Median hats. The range would just need some cavalry – particularly horse-archers and the famous cataphracts.

This would be a lovely place to do something unique in 28mm plastic.

Gotta have some more Iranians, some cavalry to go with the Achaemenid infantry that’s alright out would be great.

I would like to see either Picti/Scotti or Sasanian Persian. They were the other great Empire of this period, with the Roman Emperor referring to the Shahanshah as his brother (when they weren’t actually tearing lumps off each other.

Core troops for the Persians would be Light Cavalry (often subject peoples) – Cataphracts, the great families of the dynasties, the Asavarran Clibinarii (or less well armoured cataphracts essentially). Paighan (the spearmen) Archers, Elephants (yes please!) Slingers and Subject or Allied troops, covering other cavalry, hillmen etc.

Germans – able to fight with and against (and convert as Auxilia Palatina) of which there were more as legionaries.
