The Rising Tide of Costs Advances...and the Center Cannot Hold!

The Rising Tide of Costs Advances...and the Center Cannot Hold!

Since 2019 we have kept our pricing fairly consistent - $34.95/£25, $39.95/£30, etc - even through covid and Trump #1. Last year, with inflation down and the economy the best it had been in over 50 years, we thought we had it knocked. But now we have the chaos of Trump #2, costs rising around the world driven by the tariff disaster, the dismantling of all the programs that were driving the booming economy, and overall uncertainty hurtling us toward a recession.

We successfully mitigated the tariff issues - see here, here, and here - but the whirlwind of chaos and subsequent rise in costs - plastic, paper, printing, freight, etc - have forced us to increase our prices.

We pride ourselves on being incredibly frugal. We have streamlined our operations considerably and we are as virtual of an organization as we can be. The majority of our employees are remote, we use a host of talented freelancers, we constantly monitor our costs and seek out new vendors on a regular basis to keep from complacency. But this time it's out of our hands.

Prices across the board are rising ~8% although not all products will have the same % increase. New products will be launched at the new pricing, but the existing catalog will NOT be increased until Monday September 15th.

This all feels a bit hypocritical because I've (Hudson) always made fun of the fact that price increases are announced in our little wargames "industry" unlike - well - literally any other real industry out there. But Charlie convinced me that we have to give folks a chance to take advantage before the prices go up. So here we are.

In better news - our UK plastic operation has just delivered the following frames to the UK warehouse:

  • Mounted Knights
  • Mounted Serjeants
  • more Levy
  • 25mm Deck Bases
  • Dwarven Host
  • 1/2 of the Dark Ages Army Builder
  • 32mm Texture Bases (3mm Bevel)
  • 25mm Texture Bases (2mm)
  • and Richard Sharpe! (although we're just printing the boxes now)

Completed production molds are shipping over to the US as we speak...type...er as you're reading this...

In the coming week we'll have the Grogards back in stock, the Satyr Brutes, and possibly the Civilians/Survivors! The two new mold bases come online then as well so production doubles and then the next two will be here within 3 weeks further speeding things up for the UK and rest of world. Huzzah!

In the US we also have some big changes afoot which we'll announce next week as well. All good stuff!

And, finally, the Barons' War is back in stock everywhere in the world!

Dear Hudson, thank you for your candidness and willingness to explain the situation to us. As well as to Charlie being good advice in this instance.
To me, the point is about this kind of posts is about you caring and making all of your clients into stakeholders. With most gamers having had an imprinted reaction towards “we-do-not-care-about-our-clients-Kirby” when he was running the illustrious company currently known as James Workshop, your honest, patient and candid communication has been an extremely welcome change of pace – and a nice window into a process that usually remains behind a locked gate, and otherwise never documented to the consumer public.

In fact, I would go as far as saying that your ability to listen and have your customers impact the design process & product choice via back-and-forth polls is your most defining feature – and definitively the one I value the most. While nowadays it is far less of a structured and explicit process than while the “Bulldogs” were being designed, it was great to take part in the “Damned” Kickstarter and have a say on key things (The spikes on Gun mantles, The Mauler redesign….) that will go onto defining an entire range. As well as you literally up-and-asking on what kind of kits we would like to be manufactured, or business opportunities, and then go onto honoring that advice with facts.

In a world where meaningful political participation is often a locked gate and everyone is just too busy with deadlines to dare take the risk of listening and following up on commitments to the participation of customers, you have been a welcome exception.

I would really like you to further invest into qualitative analysis/polling software setups that can reduce the organizational strain on you from running those initiatives (and replicates the same survey on multiple websites & soccial media platforms, because facebook is my personal bugbear – good call on the social media banner recently inserted in the website!)

While everyone says “manufacturing onto customer demand is the future”, I haven´t seen anyone but you that has made meaningful strides to that end, nevermind closing the gap towards making it the foundation of your business, with a mechanical substrate to match.
Keep going! Me and many others cheer up for you every time you make a step on that road – that is how you won our loyalty.

I love your products, and I’ll still buy from you even after the price increases, but your views on politics don’t really belong here, especially when they are so clearly one-sided.

Werner Haas - August 15, 2025

Michael, I am much more likely to purchase from Wargames Atlantic now that I know their stance. I prefer to give my hard earned money to people who aren’t Nazis. As for the economy I suspect you will be pining for 2024 in the not too distant future. Enjoy the rise of fascism in your country. It didn’t work out too well for mine.

Michael DiBaggio - August 15, 2025

“the booming economy of 2024”
LOL.

Thank goodness we have yet another tabletop game company delivering political screeds to their customers.

Ristan - August 15, 2025

Did something happened to you X account? I can’t seem to find it?

Mike P - August 15, 2025

I have no issues with tariffs; they are not a disaster looking at the big picture. Your products, even with a price increase, are still better than most for the quality (look at GW costs). Finding disposable funds for “hobbying” with plastic toy soldiers makes for a more frugal consumer.

Norky - August 15, 2025

Mijie – be careful where your data comes from and be aware that inflation is increasing rapidly in the US right now.

Thomas – 2020-2024 was the greatest American economy since the 1960s. Demonstrably true in cold, hard #s. You’ve been lied to.

Mije - August 15, 2025

Inflation is a fact of life. At least current admin has got it down to less than 3%, and not 9% of a couple of years ago. Your products give good value for the money

Red - August 15, 2025

Remember, tariffs are a tax on the American people!

Thomas - August 15, 2025

Thank goodness this wasn’t a political rant. Obviously none of you experienced the last four years in the U.S. Wait a second, if I was posting this in England would it be considered hate speech and I would be arrested? Bravo England!
