I know this is a pretty old thread, but since it's relevant I thought I'd share! This is a platoon of snowy tanks for my grognards/cannon fodder mixed army. they're a 1/35th e-100 stug model, with three m3 lees from bolt action. the dozer blades in front are corner brackets with some texture. most of the guns come from the wga heavy weapons teams. all in all not too hard to convert and decently cheap, though the main turrets for the smaller tank were a pain in the neck to fit. also please ignore the easter tablecloth, it's been a long winter.
Man- there is a lot of stuff to read. That being said, I've always thought the aesthetic of the Sherman tank was good for steampunk/40k styled armies. I even designed upgrades for the Hobby Boss tanks that you can find here, and here. I plan on making an updated version for my Bandai kit, as well as the Atlantis kit.
That being said, I recently purchased an Atlantis Models Easy 8 Sherman for ~$23. Very nice kit. 1/48 Shermans scale well with 28mm, though they are a tad on the small side when compared to Predators and Leman Russ tanks. But at half the cost, I think they're a bargain.
I noticed someone mentioned the Atlantis Paladin kit- I want to get a couple of those (but I need to save up for some Hardsuits). I have an original that my dad had when he was a kid and it is a REALLY nice kit. They are very well scaled for Basilisk platforms or similar. Well worth the coin.
Raondom thing I've done before was use a 1/72 Abrams chassis to make a ~1/56 scaled M113. I may have to dig them out and post pictures.
One thing to consider is paper model templates (someone talked about it here). There are some really good ones out there if you know where to look. I think Tennet(?) had some really cool designs, as well as Toposolitario.
