@JTam
The "programming sequence" was totally nonsense (like most of the rules back then).. but the "execution" was the most hilarious part of the game every single time. Like most of players back then, I failed to
a)correctly place my warbots on the battelfield
b)use them accordingly to their programming, so too close of my troops
c)integrate their programming to my strategy..
So most of time they
a)were unable to reach enemy lines and so self-destruct
b)initiated self-destruct while still too close of my troops
c)were just roaming the battlefield like some headless chickens .. to finally self-destruct. But they usually did some damages with their mounted heavy weapons.
So after a while I decided to apply homebrew rules for some UK players thanks to ancient mailinglist (Internet was still a dream back then) so adding a monitor to control and watch over them -working like a commissar tempering Ogryns, then a techmarine when they did appear in WD. At last my Cataphracts and Castellans were able to do something when fighting alongside my assault marines or my Guard Dreadnoughts (oh yes IG Dreadnoughts were so funny).. Rules were pretty silly back to RT era, but they did often add what we called a "Fun phase".
A pity GW did not bring back warbots to the Orkoids when adding the Adeptus Mechanicus army to the setting...
Just the file and rank Infantry? ... Damn' the new HearthGuard is going to be a like a new version of the Deathroller... 😆
