Insurgent Earth Resist or Die ( Rules).

  • I don`t like to rush things as these only came yesturday, but the do seem to sellout quick. and I do think that the reason is they are dam "GOOD". So here`s a very basic and short review. These rules are created to enable solo play, group play, and  could be used for a quick show demo game. There is a very  good caste AI system for the Aliens and the rules enable any races to be fielded on the board. Board size will vary from figure quantity, but as a good flow chart. RUles them selves use all the basic RPG dice and the whole thing as the feel of a stream lined  RPG style of wargame.

Were the game really hits the mark however, is in the, do  you want to play Falling Skies types of games. I`ve been collecting figures with just this in mind now for a while. Never picked up a set of "Small rules" before that draw you in. It`s full of building ideas to start the ball rolling a.s.a.p. you will be testing out play as soon as you can with these rules. Yes as your imagination starts to increase you may want more, but by then if the aurthors other works are to go buy, he will give you more.

These rules use a low figure count which to start is great as it gives you chance to really get into creating your game and it will be that , your game. These rules are the building and testing blocks for, War of the Worlds, Collony, Independance Day, etc. You start as in my own project "Falling Skies" did, 17 days into the end of the battle for earth we lost. Now the rag tag lost souls must unite and learn to fight, to form a resistance or die.

I`ve given you just the basics  very quickly, I think this little gem of a work will sell out fast, 15 on the morning, on the afternoon after my checking it out I brought the last one. If your cup of tea is a resistance based game, then please do your self a favor give it a try. You`lle enjoy it. Cheers.

  • Thanks for the review@Geoff Maybury, always nice to hear your take on things.

Some more information and fun photos can be found on the Lead Adventure Forum for the curious.

  • @Grumpy Gnome Thanks pall I had a look and found 3 more would have chosen quicker if I`d seen these before. Even more into it now, game as a section on salvage and finding supplies, + Alien Tech, that can be adapted by civilians to improve weapons. The more i go in, the more pleased I am with them, they are well thought out to build the game you want.

I`d not heard of Colony over here, so am looking forward to giving that a taste. I`m confident these rules would be great for that as well as for sure my Falling Skies. Hot as Hell here, stay safe my friend.

  • @Geoff Maybury glad you like the rules so far! I'm just finishing up my "Alien Invaders" (very "used tech" based) and then I'll post some pics :) There's so much scope here to create your own stories, and I guess one of the game fundaments is exactly that... Patrick gives the "framework" but it's down to you to create the game world YOU want... and yes, I have worked zombies into mine as "The Changed", as well as crowbarring in some of the characters from the old "Survivalist" novels ;) Fact is that many of the WGA box sets are perfect for this game... Cannon Fodder for "Changed Grunts" (AKA The Chicos... more on this later...), converted Resistance for... well, Resistance, etc, etc :)

  • @Geoff Maybury oh, and BTW, if you use facebook there's a fabulous group there for the games, and Patrick's Blog is here https://stalker7.com/ :)

  • @Bill Thomas @Bill Thomas So pleased with them bill, as you say they are 100% the building rules for a Si/FI resistance game, and with twicking. I`d say something like SS /GB, could be adapted and used for a real change of pace. Figure wise WGA, Perrys, Studio Miniatures, CP- Models, and Crooked Dice all scale well. Rubicon and toy cars for vehicles, really staying 1/56th and 1/64th all the way with this other wize with footfall of modern machines buildings and roads will be all over the place.

I`ve already found out my Centurion doesn`t go down the same French roads that the Sherman and other WW2 vehicles travel with ease. I don't know whether you've seen the photographs on the WW2 Indo-China thread but there is a cracker of JTam's Humvee next to a White half~track. it completely dwarfs the White. There are other pictures of WW2 with modern vehicles next to them, in model and real form. The difference is quite shocking. Cheers Bill, Happy modelling.

  • @Geoff Maybury haha! Yes, I am also exploring "alternative timelines" with this... "Cowboys v Aliens" springs immediately to mind (cmon, who doesn't want to see an alien overlord blown up with some sticks of dynamite!), as does "Samurai v Aliens" just because it feels like an interesting theme 🤪 Totally agree on vehicles; I tend to use "nominal 1:43" but after much trial and error (bah!) I now know which diecast model manufacturers come up "small" and are therefore perfect to go with our figures size... that said I did buy an Atlas Sherman which is stunningly oversized and immediately ended up in the "for conversion to sci fi" box 🤣

  • @Bill Thomas I take the Rubicon measurements of some vehicles with me to judge sizes, and a WF german figure with no arms to get Height. Johny Lightning1/64th are mostly great. and their WW2 jeep is to die for, perfect scale and with a mini engine the lot. The way I build a house ect, I make a little "lot" and, butt the road/foot path up to it. Get the wrong size vehicle, and you`re scenery goes out the window. Chris Bill imagine the new MRAP in 1/50th or worse 1/48th it wouldn`t turn in between blocks,Trash cans would be milk crates!!! You`d walk a figure under the 1/48th one. Have fun Bill keep in touch Geoff

  • @Geoff Maybury Empress Miniatures MATV... splendid that is 😍 That said I'm just putting together a Crooked Dice "Mule Truck" that'll form the basis pf an SF "technical" and the MATV and that work pretty well together!

  • Update on IE... my "Grunts" are done based on "Cannon Fodder"... these are humans "changed" (basically zombified automatons) by the alien gas and enslaved to do the invaders bidding... The Resistance nicknamed them "Chicos" because of the explosive control collar 😏

  • Line "Mechs" 😊

  • Elite Level shock troops, bigger Mechs, Drones, Specialists... and a few Resistance fighters... I'm think it's soon "Game On" 😍

  • @Bill Thomas Very nice Bill, not only the fact you`ve got em well painted, also that your`re in sections, nearly ready to play.  I`m still at the sort stage, still Rome was not built in a day. Whos make are those lovelly "Mechs" ?.

  • @Geoff Maybury thanks for the kind comments; I paint for the table so it's a bit messy in some places, but it works for me 😇 The Mechs are all Anvil; the small ones are in the range currently, but the bigger ones are their "Warden Mechs" that currently are just stl files via their patreon... I managed to snag a set before they stopped the initital run of resin thankfully as I don't have a printer...

  • @Bill ThomasThanks Bill, I rather like Anvil, and hate them at the same time. They make great things to scale with our figure choices, and in particular Shadowrun. Then and it`s a bute I can`t buy them as like you I have no wish to print. Far to costly for normal guys and girls to think about them, plus the dam ventilation problems. There`s a world of top quality models and figures out  there, that pains me a lot. So do Anvil test a few first, and then thats it over to the viod, lost to true wargamers forever.?

What the battle stratergy of these people? Cheers Bill

  • @Geoff Maybury yup, like you I both love and hate them in equal measure haha! I love the fact that they offer so many options, but their rifles and small arms, etc are horribly oversized, and their male legs are stumpy with what appear to be clown shoes ;)

Their Patreon has allowed them the budget to launch many new lines digitally and I support it even though like you I don't have a printer... luckily they do seem to filter through at least some of the digital lines to physical resins over time, and I hope that this will continue as some of the newer digitals (like the stalkers and cyberpunk runners) are awesome!

They've also used the digital program to rework and re-issue some of their old "Afterlife" stuff which I love, so they seem to have a handle on things moving forward... here's hoping at least :)
