1870-ish

  • I'd love to see some additional plastic kits for the Austro Prussian and Franco Prussian wars, to complement the Bavarians WGA has announced, as well as the perry line.

Franco-Prussian war is probably my most anticipated historical period in plastic at the moment.

  • Agreed (though not for the same reasons as you), I also hope they stick with the plan of adding VSF heads to the gurkah and maybe do that for the other Franco-Prussian stuff (since Perrys is also doing it) or some historical scale VSF upgrade sprues for  Bavarians, Austrians, etc. at some point.

  • Agree to you both... I have 4 boxes of Perry Prussions (on Spruhs) and I can't wait zu add a -box-army bavarians to them... France toops in future should be a good idea...

  • If you're going to treat the skirmish gamers in the room you might as well make some Communards.

You could have your Prussian and French sets play out the encirclement as much as you want. But then you could use the French regular set to combat a set of male Communards, a set of female Communards, and a set of Guarde National with a cannon.

I mean if we are talking urban skirmish warfare, the Paris Commune has to have some of the craziest scenarios you can write. And all on terrain you could die for... and use in Mordheim.

I'd have to take a look at it, but I'm pretty sure you could use communards in the 1848 rebellion as well. Which was probably the most widespread people's rebellion Europe had ever seen, and were huge battles at the barricades.

Unfortunately, they might not fit the bill for street rabble during the French Revolution. You'll have to make another set to whiff Napoleon's grapes.

  • @INSURGENT Skirmisher You probably can't use the Communards for anything other than Communards and some French troops in the Franco Prussian war since this is what they actuallly dressed like apparently:

The fighting was remarkably one sided too (they got butchered in a month).

  • @Brian Van De Walker The picture here is of Guarde National troops. They were a kind of Paris self defense force that rebelled against the government. I think the only difference in their uniforms from many french units was some red on their hats and pants hems.

There were a series of worker rebellions and peoples revolutions in Europe from 1848-1914. Many of them included large-scale urban combat, raids against military barracks, aristocratic households, and government buildings. The fighting in the Paris Commune lasted for a month and included hundreds of barricades and fortified positions. It was a labyrinth of urban warfare and perfect for 28mm skirmish scenarios.

Two box sets for male and female Communards/European worker revolutionaries would be perfect.
