Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has any experience making red desert terrain or that style of base.
For reference, I'm thinking that real red earth look, like in the Aussie Outbaxk:
I've had a go at two different methods but aren't too sure if I'm convinced:

It looks like they've got two different textures of the red, too, so helps make things a little more interesting!
I use vallejo red oxide paste as a basis.

looks okay on its own, looks great with orange drybrush and wash (red or brown, whatever you prefer)
