How does Bello Ludi even work?

  • So I've been looking for rules on WGA to use my Conquistador Models for and...... for Dread Nights I don't know what era it even is, probably late Victorian? So would my British Riflemen even make sense? Also, it's five man teams..... something I ain't particularly fond of since...... that just leaves me with a lot of models sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I though Bello Ludi would be interesting...... until I learned all their units are intended to be 12 man squads from what I managed to read in the books. There was also the fact that........ it barely gives you anything. And I went for the Harquebus amd Spellcaster rule sets because I figured it could work. It doesn't even really tell you how to even build an army.

Anybody know some other good games I can try? I'm already on the discord where they host the one box games challenge. Maybe the other Renaissance Skirmish game that WGA has might be more satisfying? Though granted as I mentioned. As a collector I would rather games that would allow me the option of using all my models. I might get Pike and Shotte depending on if I can find any good PDFs for it.

  • @Charles Tottington Frostgrave has a blackpowder weapon add on rules in one of the magzines  and there is always sludge, Dragon's Rampent, one page rules, Fist full of Lead, and Chain Reaction, but given the models I would look at the historical game Blood and Plunder and see if there are any good "we added magic" fanzine rules for it.

You could also check out Wargamers Vault, they have tons of rulesset with more added all the time and thier own Renaissance section.

Also I am not all together sure what your trying to say but if it helps the Victorian era is 2 to 3 centuries after the  Conquistadors and thier British counterparts of the time and Dread Nights appears to be set at time you could use either Zulu wars or WW1 minis for it.

  • @Brian Van De Walker Makes sense. Now I wonder how cross compatable Napoleonic British Riflemen are with WW1 era stuff.

Funny thing is that I've just been getting into Fist Full of Lead. I got the core rules, big battle rules, Steampunk rules, Galactic Heroes and their 40k suppliment. One thing I like is how relatively customizable the rules are. I'm certainly going to be mixing and matching rules for various different games.
