VISMOD "Russian Tank" used by the OPFOR in the training area. They used to use M60s back in the day...... which is dubious as the M60 is at least 15 feet taller than any Russian tank. This is basically just a M113 chassis with a modified Bradley turret on it. The use the Bradley turret lets the gunner and TC keep their Bradley gunnery skills fresh even during their OPFOR assignment.

@JTam My farther was in the Coldstream Guards in Italy, and all through the War, he drove a Bren Gun carrier. and towed that 6lb gun. He built me the Airfix 1/76 scale kit. and he would have loved to have brought one for real. He was really pleased when I brought my Willys MB and we restored it to original condition.

@JTam As you probably guessed first time Iv`ve found this posting, thanks Tam so many old memories of my time with the Military Conservation Group and our restored machines. Its great to see Halftracks next to a "Hum-V", it really brings to home the size differences, between WW2 and Modern machines. Imagine that MRAP parked next to it, tiny would not be enough of a statment. These photos of yours make me even more determined to stay with my 1/56th scale plans. I`ve started my M.V.C.G. with Rubicon machines, when the modern arrive I`m sorted. That MRAP would be nice to see next to an MB Jeep.

That's an incredible story about your Father in WW2. Just a hard, slogging fight in Italy.
Being able to restore a jeep together had to be an amazing experience.
Which vehicle were you referring to? Both the Stryker and MRAP are boats.
It would be something to see an MRAP next to a jeep. One is a house and the other you can throw in the bed of a full size pickup truck.
@JTam The MRAP, when you say boats are they both amphibious ?. YEP my farther was my best friend, and we worked hours, after school, and weekends. His retirment gift to me, was to have the jeeps body, seats. etc. sand blasted at his place of work. Then 3 coats of industrial red lead, and 3 coats of grey primer, were apllyed when it came back on Saturday morning, I sprayed. over the day 5 coats of Olive Drab, got`a dig out some old photos real and transfer to degital so you can see the old girl. Thank you, for once again tickleing those old grey matter cells a blast from my way back in my past. Cheers my friend.

Hi Brother, when I said the MRAP was a boat I just meant it was f*ck huge. We had a hard time navigating mountain passes and lanes through villages in Afghanistan in unarmored HMMWVs. MRAPs were/are severely restricted in routes and mobility.
Glad this thread brought back pleasant memories.
I was considering picking up a 50s/60s era jeep someday. They are cheaper than a Polaris and way cooler to my mind. Obviously I would prefer a WW2 jeep, but I got to send a daughter to college.
@JTam Hi my brother, Really love that MRAP, it`s gonna be a problem on the board if you mess up on scale, can`t get it down your lovely modelled scenery.
Very pleasant memories, was talking into the night with Eileen.
How times have really changed, my jeep was a none original runner, all the body seats, brackets, lights etc had gone, and she was a blueish green. Paid £106 pounds for her on my 16th birthday 9/8/1970. spent two years running her around, but buying all military missing parts, plus a new wirring loum Then took her off road, for around two months for the rebuild, when finished she was as new,only did 18 to a gallon, with her carter carbaretor, and although other people tried to swap theirs for a better job they failed. I was a MVCG member for 10/11 years and used to mock battle for charity at weekends. I also had a M38A1 for around 5 years full original radio deep water wading , but 24 Volts instead of 6 Volt and 25 to a gallon.
These were my "Cars" I couldn`t do it now with petrol prices, and insurance for soft tops, Don`t think Id want to trailer one back and forth, it would take the joy out of it .
Really hope some day you get your dream, there`s nothing like "Off road in a WW2, or 1952 machine. Although I`d like a M1 A1, M1A2, or better still a "Brain Fart scout", machine used by MP`s in Vietnam. Crew of around 6/8 amphibious, large rectangler box on wheels, winch on front, could be tureted Side two piece doors one rear flip hatches on top at front . DAM !!! ???

I think the Army is phasing them out now though. The MP Battalion next door traded them in for MRAPs last year. (A poor trade, for a less capable vehicle, if you ask me.) (I wonder where the old M1117s went? Probably on a ship to Ukraine as we speak.)
