These brutes are 🔥
@Caratacus
It's worth noting that there are no differences (from memory) between lasguns and autoguns stats wise in the current edition. I consider them pretty much interchangeable at this point.
@Andreas Mayrhofer
They look good. Enough gas mask heads and Ripperguns so I'm happy. Some of the close combat weapons look great too.
I wonder how they scale with this guy?:
Or this guy?:
I had to pick up one of the above when Forgeworld was killing off the Lost and the Damned minis.
I would guess the WGA Brutes are a bit smaller..... But both of the above make great leaders/champions for teams of Brutes so them being bigger isn't problematic.
@Andreas Mayrhofer just read the main news post, and I agree that these are 100% awesome... that sorts "Enhanced Mutants" for Stargrave right there, and I'm just going back through my old "Mutant Chronicles" stuff to see where I might crowbar them in too 😍
Good summary/roll up on Bell of Lost Souls:
Blog post on the heavy weapons:
https://wargamesatlantic.com/blogs/news/up-close-the-damned-heavy-support-teams
These look great. Easily the best heavy weapons WGAs ever done.
My only feedback is that the weapons are TOO beat up. We've gone past war weary/post-apocalyptic/Traitor Guard looking to semi-comedic/made of scrap Orky looking. Way too many cracked gun shields. (They're more likely to be bent or holed and patched really). Do these guys not own a welder? Come on.
I would personally tone down the damage to the heavy weapons. (YMMV. Opinions are like buttholes).
EDIT:
I wish all the bodies were kneeling or sitting. You can use binos, point, and load weapons while kneeling too.
If you really want a standing body for your heavy weapons crew can use any of the Infantry kit bodies. And the heavy weapons will have more kneeling bodies you can cross level into your Infantry squads. (For variety, or to make the sniper rifle guy stand out for instance).
You know looking at the articles.... this may be a glimpse of what we're going to see in an eventual Deathfields game. So the ruleset might be more like Proper 40k in comparison to most modern tabletop games that focus more on skirmish. Not sure how I can proxy the Plasma Cannon though.
Anyways...... I AM HYPED!!!!!!!
So this is semi interesting.
The blurb:
The render:
5. Appears to be the autocannon. Certainly appears to be about to be fed with an autocannon sized magazine.
https://wargamesatlantic.com/community/xenforum/topic/84603/romanian-ww2-plastics
4. Appears to be a heavy plasma gun fed by some kind of power source connected by cable.
3. Appears to be mortar.
2. Appears to be a missile launcher
1. Appears to be a heavy bolter. I mean it could be the heavy laser but it really appears to have a projectile belt being fed into it.
If 5 weapons is the limit I hope they keep the heavy bolter and ditch the heavy plasma for the heavy laser.
Or it just occured to me that perhaps the same weapons body is a heavy bolter when fed by belt and a heavy laser when connected to a battery....
Time will tell.
@Red Bee
Maybe you can rename the thread "The Damned Master Thread" or some such.... As that's largely what it's become.
Might make it easier for visitors looking for info and speculation on The Damned to find.
It's all about the mortars... just sayin' 🤣
Another article:
https://www.beastsofwar.com/scifi/closer-look-wargames-atlantics-the-damned-miniatures/
Has this picture of the cavalry:
https://wargamesatlantic.com/blogs/news/up-close-the-damned-command
Power Fisting! Ogryns leader! A full sized Command sprue! Winning.
I missed the part about a brute leader! That's rad.
Not a super fan if the skull hat, a little to nazi-ish for my tastes
@Red Bee
I doubt there's a military in the world that hasn't worn a saucer cap at some point or other. And they often denote Officers. It's hardly a Third Reich thing.
Should they decide to go with something that isn't entirely human for Infantry, I'd love to see a pig man Hybrid. Especially a Pigman Centaur!
let slip the hogs of war!
Bunch of new info available now:
Friday Sneak Peak Email:
WGA Blog post:
https://wargamesatlantic.com/blogs/news/follow-the-damned-campaign-preview
And the Game Found pre-Campaign Page:
So the campaign needs to reach $150,000 for the Cavalry to be made. And $200,000 for the Hounds.
I wonder about the tank and artillery?
https://wargamesatlantic.com/blogs/news/1000-followers-for-the-damned-want-free-sprues
Check out some of the stretch goals!:
Couple new "sneak peaks here":
https://wargamesatlantic.com/blogs/news/the-damned-moves-to-tuesday
Maybe from the Command Sprue?
And Artillery Sprue?
Now there is also a (little) painting guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkXkBO_Ur3Y
plus look to these Krieg's enemies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmv9YA2pS-g
@Alessio De Carolis
Nice find on the painting guide.
Enjoyed the Krieg video as well.
Shit got real at 4:35 when the shovel came out:
My two cents on the campaign.
I love all th models so far, all look aweome. I dont like textured bases, so any free sprues of that stuff is getting thrown out or sold for pennies on ebay. Dont like them, dont use them. I am really fusy about all my bases matching, so any plain bases need to match gw's style, size amd height or they are gargae too.
The free outrider spure? what am i going to do with three of them if i dont buy a box of them? Three is not a squad in any game i am gonna use them for. Another wasted sprue?
So for me, all the strecth goals are useless and a waste.
😭
(dont get me wrong, i am still buying 5 boxes!!!)
The Wargames Atlantic Friday Email (26 MAY 23) had this sneak peak:
I imagine these are the Hound's handlers.
Also gives a great sneak peak at what the female Infantry kit might look like.
Lots of great info in this blog post:
https://wargamesatlantic.com/blogs/news/prep-for-launch
Love this:
And if they get over $500,000.00 in pledges they are going to start having all kinds of interesting things!:
Most excited about the possibility of female Infantry, plastic terrain, and the Gene Hybrid sprue/kit.
The Gene Hybrid kit is genius. With some different heads and a few extra arms here and there the Damned would make great Genestealer Cultists.
But all of the above options are exciting.
@William Hallam Well, they could be useful as: Scouts, characters on horseback or officers. Naturally I'm a collector/modeler, not a gamer, so it is a matter of personal tastes.
Great reason to pledge on the first day:
There's also a free sprue of Brutes if they get to 3000 followers before the campaign opens. That would be awesome but I"m not sure they will get there with 17 hours to go.
Couple of hours into the campaign:
@William Hallam
"The free outrider spure? what am i going to do with three of them if i dont buy a box of them?"
You can use the heads, arms and maybe other components to convert your other miniatures.
WTF? Unnecessary.
Nice!
Was really looking forward to the cavalry so glad they got unlocked.
The free sprue will bulk out a unit(s) or be useful for converting mounted command.
I predict this cavalry set will be a big seller.
Swap in your Cadian torso and head, and sand off the spikes on the horse heads and these are excellent Rough Riders for any Imperial Guard army. Heck you could just use the gas hood heads and call it a day of you wanted.
Next big goal is $200,000.00 to unlock the Hounds. Fingers crossed.
I'm excited to see what the actual "Hounds" will look like.
Also, does anyone have any idea how to run these guys/substitute them in 40K?
Well evidently it's only $170,000.00 to unlock the Hounds. Awesome.
This is new!
Nice! $200,000.00 is certain to happen.
Also, if my mafs is correct I got one Infantry sprue for following pre-campaign, and will get an Infantry sprue at 1000 pledgers, and another female Infantry sprue at $200,000.00 for a total of 18 Infantry. Easy two scrounge two bodies off the Command box to reach two full "free" squads. Awesome!
(Potentially there's yet another free Infantry sprue at $375,000.00. Twenty four [effectively a box worths] of free Infantry would be pretty awesome).
Sidenote: I hope there's an adorable braid sticking out the back of the middle ones gas hood.
Very cool!:
Was a little worried we might not get the artillery with the previous target.
11:46 2 JUN 23:
Hopefully we hit $270,000.00 over the weekend.
Just slid backwards a grand overnight (it was $168,500ish Saturday night and it's $167,243 Sunday morning). WTF Europe?
Kind of a disappointing weekend.
Need to get this campain into the 40K social media consciousness more. I've seen one Reddit thread and nothing on Facebook and I follow of 40K groups.
Here's a Reddit thread if you want to upvote it:
@JTam Agreed completely. I don't think I seen much more than a sparse tweet from around war game hobby sphere, while there are multiple creators open and enthusiastic about proxy/system agnostic models. Weird they haven't got a chance to look and paint some prototype prints to make the main page of the project more diverse and the wargaming social media sphere more aware of the project.
This just popped up on Bell of Lost Souls:
That should spread the word a bit.
https://www.belloflostsouls.net/2023/06/the-damned-minis-are-live-on-gamefound-now.html
@Drangir
Maybe some battle scenes with painted miniatures in good terrain versus Grognards. Advertise that (Grognards) line as well.
And more test models sent to more "Influencer" painters to post on their social media.
Heck, release some box art into the wild.
Dropped again :/
@Drangir
This is weird.
10th Edition Warhammer 40K boxset dropping nowish probably isn't helping.
How do you incentive all the fence sitters who are not unreasonably saying to themselves "I can buy these kits later if I want at about the same price retail"?
WGA has never done metal or resin miniatures. Which is a shame as some Kickstarter exclusive character models might move the needle a bit.
"Pledge for 5 boxes and get Pledgestarter exclusive evil female Political Officer"! "Pledge for 10 boxes and also get her loyal Brute bodyguard too"! Sign me up.
@JTam Like others, I must say that those 'hounds' look much better than expected. I thought they'd just be some cheap Chaos Warhound knock-offs, but those are much better.
I wonder if WA was inspired by the Dark Elf Cold Ones and the concept of 'Cold One Warhounds' from 3rd Edition Warhammer Fantasy?
Perhaps, but the design is very on line with creatures in a lot of modern sci-fi. My first thought is they're pretty close to Titan Fall prowlers.
